Montgomery County Sheriff Darren M. Popkin announced that he will not seek an additional term earlier this afternoon. Prior to his election on November 2, 2010 and re-election in 2014, Sheriff Popkin was the Chief Deputy, second-in-command of the Sheriff’s Office for twelve years.
During a 30 year law enforcement career Sheriff Popkin rose through the ranks, serving in the Sheriff’s Office Criminal, Family, Civil and Court Services Divisions. Sheriff Popkin continues his involvement in innovative programs designed to reduce the incidents of domestic violence in the County. He was on the strategic planning committee responsible for designing and implementing the interagency Montgomery County Family Justice Center (FJC) which opened in May, 2009 and has since served over 6,000 clients. Sheriff Popkin continues his executive management role with the FJC.
MoCo Park Police Officer Rescues Kitten Stuck in The Engine Compartment of Vehicle in Germantown
On Sunday afternoon, Maryland Park Police tweeted that an officer responding to the Germantown SoccerPlex rescued a kitten from the inside of a vehicle’s engine compartment. The cat was then taken to the MoCo Animal Services & Adoption Center.
