Josiah Henson Museum and Park Opens on April 23

Montgomery Parks has announced the opening of  Josiah Henson Museum and Park on April 23, 2021. The museum and park are located at 11410 Old Georgetown Road in North Bethesda, on the site of the former plantation where Henson was enslaved from 1795 – 1830.  The museum is open Friday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are required for admission and must be purchased online.

County Council Approves Amended Board of Health Regulation on Graduation Ceremonies

This morning the Montgomery County Council unanimously approved a Fourth Amended Board of Health Regulation to prevent the spread of COVID19 in the county. The amendment, which is listed below, focuses on guidelines for school graduations.


Silver Spring Resident John King Announces He’s Running For Governor of Maryland

Former U.S. Education Secretary John King is launching a campaign for governor of Maryland. King served as  Secretary of Education from 2016 to 2017 under President Barack Obama and is running as a Democrat.


Gaithersburg and Silver Spring both cracked the top ten of Wallethub’s “2021 Most & Least Diverse Cities in the U.S.” list again this year. Some will note that Silver Spring and other areas included in the list aren’t technically cities, but many areas listed are census designated places. Germantown comes in just outside of the top ten at 12, while Rockville comes in at 34.

Earlier this year, Wallethub released their “2021’s Most & Least Ethnically Diverse Cities in the U.S.” list and Montgomery County also had a strong showing there, but it is unclear as to what changed the rankings in the last few months (Gaithersburg, Germantown, Silver Spring, and Rockville all came in the top seven on that list). WalletHub is a personal finance website that branched into producing research reports and surveys on topics with varying degrees of relevance to personal finance.
