Montgomery County’s Department of Environmental Protection will host a free paper shredding and recycling event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15 at Montgomery College Rockville, offering residents a secure way to dispose of sensitive documents.
Lakeforest Mall officially closed on March 31, 2023, after nearly 45 years in Gaithersburg, and now longtime residents have a chance to bring home a piece of its history. The Montgomery County Council approved an amendment to add Timberlawn to Montgomery County’s Master Plan for Historic Preservation. The vote follows the May 2025 recommendation by the Montgomery County Planning Board to historically designate the North Bethesda house where Eunice Kennedy Shriver launched Camp Shriver, a day camp for children with intellectual disabilities that inspired the creation of Special Olympics.
The Montgomery County Council unanimously passed legislation prohibiting vehicles from stopping or parking in designated bikeways to improve cyclist safety and support the county’s Vision Zero goals.

Elrich noted that SNAP payments will be delayed due to the federal administration’s actions and encouraged residents in need of immediate food assistance to access local food distribution resources.
