Rock Hill Orchard & Woodbourne Creamery on Maryland’s 2020 Ice Cream Trail

The Creamery, located in Mt. Airy, is MoCo’s sole cow-to-cone establishment, though the Creamery is only selling ice cream in cups during the pandemic. Visitors can often see the cows whose milk produces their ice cream. They are the only remaining MoCo dairy that sells milk directly to the public.

The Montgomery County Council has introduced a resolution to urge Maryland lawmakers to replace “Maryland, My Maryland” as the state song and discourage the song from being played at official Montgomery County events.

Per the county, “Our state’s rich and storied history is also plagued by slavery and sympathy towards the Confederacy and successionist movement. The Pratt Street Riots that occurred in Baltimore in 1861 was a bloody confrontation between Union Troops headed to Washington D.C. and confederate sympathizers. James Randall Ryder, to express his opposition towards Union troops, wrote “Maryland, My Maryland” which became widely popular among Confederate America and was later made the state song in 1939 when Maryland was a segregated Jim Crow state.”

More young people testing positive for COVID-19

As the pandemic progresses, the distribution of cases has shifted toward young people. This could be a result of increased testing, more risky behaviors, the makeup of the essential workforce, and other factors. Though young adults are less likely to display symptoms, they may unknowingly spread COVID-19 to older and more vulnerable populations, thereby fueling the pandemic.

New Montgomery County program connects people who have a bike to donate to people who need one.  The program aims to help to ease COVID-19 transportation difficulties. Citizens are able to apply to either donate a bike to someone in need, or to receive a bike from another donor. The program matches donors with recipients, offering a COVID-safe opportunity to help people within the community.

They ask that bikes only be offered if they are in ready-to-ride condition.  Exchanges are made in public places or county-designated exchange zones that are outdoor and contactless, however it is still asked that both parties wear masks and gloves.

The Montgomery County Government recently announced that they have made visits to 1,900 MoCo businesses to ensure that safety procedures are being followed.  Two hookah lounges, a bar, and a restaurant have been closed for not properly following opening guidelines.

Per the county’s instructions, residents who have concerns about a business not following COVID-19 restrictions should email [email protected] or call 311.
