Montgomery Parks will be opening its newest park in downtown Silver Spring in the spring of 2026 and is inviting the public to help choose its name.
As reports of coyote sightings continue to increase on neighborhood Facebook pages and the NextDoor app, many residents are seeking ways to coexist safely with these adaptable animals. Montgomery Parks has shared information regarding “coyotes in the suburbs” that can be seen below:
Montgomery Parks, with a $7.5 million federal grant, is implementing traffic calming and road-crossing improvements at parks and trails to enhance pedestrian and cyclist safety. The public is invited to a virtual meeting on March 20 to learn more and provide feedback on projects planned for Sligo Creek, Matthew Henson, and Wheaton Regional Park.
Montgomery Parks is reminding everyone that we spring forward an hour this weekend and that means the start of spring/summer hours for the Open Parkways.
Montgomery Parks will be conducting prescribed fires at River Road Shale Barrens Conservation Park (Poolesville) and Serpentine Barrens Conservation Park (Potomac) in early to mid-March 2025 to help restore the parks’ native habitats and better support natural ecosystems.

The Butterfly Experience at Brookside Gardens is returning to Montgomery Parks this spring. Formerly known as Wings of Fancy, the exhibit is relaunching on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 10 a.m., and runs through Sunday, September 21, 2025. Advanced timed tickets go on sale Monday, March 3.
Montgomery Park’s Acoustics & Ales series will return on March 8, 2025, and will feature live music from Barleyjuice Trio, craft beverages from local breweries, and a variety of food trucks at North Four Corners Local Park in Silver Spring. The free outdoor event is open to all ages, with attendees encouraged to bring their own snacks, blankets, and lawn chairs.

Due to the weather, the delivery of the exhibit was delayed reaching Wheaton. The exhibit will now open to the public on Wednesday, February 19.
