According to the press release, The Pike’s Peek 10K is one of the largest 10K road races in the region and was named by RunWashington Magazine in 2017 as the region’s Best 10K Race. In its 22nd year, the race is widely known as a PR (personal record)-friendly course for runners. With its gentle net downhill profile, this point to point course starts near the Shady Grove Metro station and winds its way down Montgomery County’s busiest retail corridor and finishes at Pike & Rose with convenient access to dining, retail and transit.

The sign outside reads “Hank Dietle’s Cold Beer” and there’s plenty of it inside. You’ll also find a pool table, arcade games, and vintage bar furniture, but you won’t find any food aside from chips and peanuts.

Down the street from Pike & Rose, and close to where White Flint Mall came and went, Dietle’s hasn’t fit in for many decades, but has managed to outlast almost everything around it.

It has been nearly 9 years since Korson founded the company in August of 2009. Since then he has brought in many former college and professional athletes to teach youngsters the fundamentals in a an open-registration, recreation-level sports program, which also includes a travel program that has helped earn hundreds of athletes spots on high school teams, and placed dozens of athletes in college.

Korson had to hire his own coach as a baseball player at Whitman High School and that led to a high school career which earned him a scholarship to Florida Gulf Coast University and propelled him into the Walt Whitman High School Sports Hall of Fame.
