Brookeville Preserves Its History Through 15 Star Flags
Brookeville’s title as “Capital for a Day” isn’t the only thing that makes Brookeville a uniquely historical site. A flag resembling the Star-Spangled Banner, otherwise known as the 15 star flag or the Great Garrison flag, can be seen lining some streets.

Brookeville was settled by Quakers late in the 18th century and was formally incorporated as a town in 1808. Just six years later, it became the “U.S. Capital for a Day.”
Community swimming pools have begun to reopen in Brookeville and Olney as the 4th of July Weekend approaches.
Residents in the Olney Mill, Tanterra, and Hallowell neighborhoods must fill out waivers and reserve a visit time via the website “Sign Up Genius” if they wish to visit their community pools.
The Brookeville Beer Farm has reopened their dining areas, but with some slight coronavirus-related changes.
Prior to June, the restaurant and brewery offered only curbside pickup due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But now that the curve has been flattened, customers are now allowed to dine in person.

A little while ago, we introduced you to Lone Oak Brewery located in Olney off of Olney Laytonsville Rd. We went back again today to check out their progress and we were shown around by founders Chris and Charlie Miller, who both graduated from Magruder High School and partnered with Ralph and Ryan Mollet of Gaithersburg to bring you the brewery.
As of right now, they estimate a mid April opening. Lone Oak emphasizes local resources— they plan to grow some of their own ingredients including blueberries, blackberries, and possible pumpkins. They also plan to keep their own bees for honey, and they have even included wood from local trees into their buildings.
