F45 Training, an Australian franchisor and operator of fitness centers based in Austin, Texas, will be opening a new  Montgomery County location in Potomac, joining Germantown and Olney as upcoming locations, with current locations exist in Bethesda and Silver Spring (Google has listed Bethesda as “temporarily closed” for two years).

The fitness center will open at 1087 Seven Locks Rd in Potomac Woods Plaza, taking over the location that was previously home to BB&T bank. The space is currently being renovated and there’s not an opening date currently available.


Winston Churchill High School principal, John Taylor, sent a letter to the Churchill community on Tuesday informing them of the tragic passing of an 11th grade student at the school. The full letter can be seen below:

It is true that the death of anyone close to us, especially a young person, can be emotionally challenging. Our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with the student’s family and friends during this difficult time. You may be concerned about the reaction of your child to this news of the loss of a classmate. Many students will wish to talk with their parents, so I have linked (see below) some general information that may guide you in those conversations.


Update 6/20:  Apna Pizza has announced that due to an electrical issue the restaurant will not be opening this week. New opening date to be determined. 

Back in March we let you know that Apna Pizza is coming to 14050 Travilah Rd in Rockville (Travilah area), the former site of Pizza Palace. The new pizzeria has wrapped up construction and a countdown on the restaurant website says that the restaurant will open later this week


The suspect is described as a male, wearing a white t-shirt, cargo shorts and a baseball cap.  Anyone with information regarding this suspect or this crime is asked to call the 1st District Investigative Section at 240-773-6084 or 240-773-TIPS, or contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS(8477). A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect. Callers can remain anonymous.

 


Last month we let you know that Goldberg’s Bagels would be closing its Cabin John Village location “in a few weeks, ” according to the store. Established in 1998 and serving the DC Metro area since 2004, Goldberg’s New York Bagels offers award winning bagels and deli style cuisine. The store has now closed, but has additional locations in Rockville and Silver Spring that will remain open.

What will be taking its place?


The Bullis School has announced a Celebration of Life for Dwayne Haskins, Jr., who graduated from the school in 2016. The celebration will take place on Sunday, April 24th at 7pm at the Bullis School’s Kline Alumni Stadium.

Haskins was tragically killed when he was hit by a vehicle in South Florida on April 9th.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded to a barn fire this morning around 4:45am after a nearby resident saw a “glow in the sky” and called 9-11.

The fire occurred on Stoney Creek Road near Wetherfield Lane in Potomac and has left one horse dead, according to Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Pete Piringer. One horse that managed to escape the fire has survived.


Normandie Farm Restaurant at 10710 Falls Rd. announced today that the current owners will be retiring and the restaurant will be temporarily closing on June 30. New ownership will be taking over and are expected to reopen the restaurant in late summer.

Normandie Farm was founded in 1931 by Marjory Hendricks in the midst of the Depression. It is one of a handful of restaurants that are still in existence from that era.


Glenstone Museum has announced that it will be suspending indoor dining at the Cafe and Patio and will be reducing visitor capacity starting today, Thursday, December 23.

Glenstone is an art museum based in Potomac. The museum displays exhibits of contemporary and modern art from post-WWII artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Louise Bourgeois, Alexander Calder, Andy Goldsworthy, Jeff Koons, Richard Serra, and more. A large portion of the museum’s art and architecture can be viewed through an outdoor walking tour experience, spread out throughout the 300 acre property.


RM of BTS Visits MoCo’s Glenstone Museum   

Recently, rapper RM visited Glenstone Museum in Potomac while on a trip to the DC area. He posted two different sets of photos from his visit on Instagram. One post includes the caption “돌의 마을.. 세라가 잘 어울렸다,” which roughly means “The village of stone… Serra built it well,” referring to sculptures by artist Richard Serra. 


Christian Veilleux was a two-year letterman for head coach Patrick Cilento at the Bullis School in Potomac. Today, the freshman quarterback entered the game for Penn State after starter Sean Clifford was injured in the first quarter.

Prior to this game, Veilleux last threw a pass in a live game in November 2019, but he was still able to provide the spark the struggling Penn State offense needed. He threw for three touchdowns and 235 yards after the offense produced 32 yards and one first down on its first four possessions, prior to Veilleux entering the game.
