Per MCPD: A 42-year-old man has been arrested after shooting at a Montgomery County Police officer the morning of Tuesday, December 6, 2022.  As a result of recent gun store burglaries, Montgomery County Police officers were on proactive patrol in the 700 block of East Gude Dr., when at approximately 12:30 a.m., an employee of Engage Armament ran towards the officer’s unmarked car and began shooting, hitting the unmarked car twice.

The employee, Andrew S. Raymond, of Darnestown, was outside of the store when the Montgomery County Police officer drove into the parking lot of Engage Armament. The officer witnessed a white male run towards his vehicle, while reaching into his waistband. The officer attempted to drive away when he heard gunshots. He then radioed for assistance and gave officers a description of the shooter. The officer noticed Raymond running towards his vehicle and he activated his emergency equipment, signaling that he was a police officer. Raymond immediately stopped, dropped his weapon, raised his hands and was taken into custody.

Dunkin’ is continuing its massive expansion across the country and in MoCo, with an upcoming location coming to the Traville Village Center in Rockville. It will be taking over the former Capital One Bank building at 9761 Traville Gateway Dr. We expect more news coming out of the shopping center regarding the former Nantucket’s Reef location very soon.

Since Inspire Brands acquired Dunkin’ and Baskin Robbins in late 2020 for $11.3 billion, the company has been opening in former bank locations that allow for easy installation of a drive-thru window. Dunkin has also aimed for non-traditional development that includes opening in airports and on college campuses, including the University of Maryland.

In a move to consolidate members, staff, resources, etc. SoldierFit has permanently closed its Bethesda location (7920 Norfolk Ave Bethesda, MD 20814) with plans of combining it with its North Bethesda/Rockville location (12241 Nebel St, North Bethesda, MD 20852). SoldierFit Bethesda opened approximately three years ago in Bethesda, while the North Bethesda/Rockville location opened in 2016.

Soldierfit, founded by Army veteran Danny Farrar and Rockville native/Wootton High School alumnus Dave Posin, offers memberships for group classes, access to exercise equipment, personal training and kids’ classes. Anytime Fitness has closed its Rockville location (9725 Traville Gateway) permanently, according to a representative from the Germantown location. We were told the 24-hour gym closed its doors in late November after over a decade in the location.

Anytime Fitness has additional Montgomery County locations in Germantown (18319 Leaman Farm Dr.) and Kensington (4265 Howard Ave). There is no word on a replacement in the Traville Gateway shopping center. Featured photo courtesy of Google Maps.

Caruso’s Grocery in Pike and Rose is taking reservations starting this Wednesday, December 7th. The restaurant is located at 11820 Trade St. in the dining room space that was home to Owen’s Ordinary and currently home to the recently rebranded Owen’s Tavern and Beer Garden.

The restaurant has rebranded from Owen’s Ordinary with the bar and patio becoming Owen’s Tavern and Beer Garden (launched last month) and the dining room making the change to Caruso’s Grocery. Both Caruso’s and Owen’s are operated by Neighborhood Restaurant Group.  Chef Matt Adler previously told Washingtonian Magazine that Owen’s dining room was never as busy as its  bar and patio so it made sense to repurpose the underutilized space.
