Per Adventist Healthcare:

Women at high-risk for breast cancer, especially those with dense breasts, have a new tool to improve early detection in Montgomery County. Thanks to a generous donation to the Shady Grove Medical Center Foundation, Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Breast Center now has an Automated 3D Breast Ultrasound Device (ABUS). As a result, residents of suburban Maryland will no longer have to travel outside the area to receive a potentially life-saving early diagnosis. Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Breast Center is the only facility in Montgomery County to have this technology available.

In December we let you know that the founder of Sweet Frog, Derek Cha, will be bringing his take on the Nashville-style hot chicken sandwich to MoCo with Hangry Joe’s Hot Chicken. The restaurant will be located in the Travilah Square Shopping Center (the shopping center is anchored by Trader Joe’s) in Rockville, between Pholuscious and Tropical Smoothie Cafe, in the 1,600 sf location that was home to El Mexicano at 10050 Darnestown Road, per H&R Retail.

Construction has started, but there is plenty of work left to do. A late spring or summer opening is expected. A location is also coming soon to 2533 Ennals Ave in Wheaton, in the spot that was formerly home to El Pollo Kiki Riki. That location is expected to open later this Spring.

Hello Betty announced in February via Instagram that it was planning to open a Pike & Rose location in April. Today the restaurant announced that it will be open on Friday, April 8th and is accepting reservations for its grand opening. The seafood-focused restaurant aims to bring California beach, surf, and skate ambiance to their establishment.

A few months ago, a mysterious boat was seen in Pike & Rose being lifted by crane into Canopy. Hello Betty confirmed that this boat will be part of their restaurant’s decor. Hello Betty will open inside of Canopy by Hilton in Pike & Rose, replacing the Canopy Central Cafe– the restaurant that was there previously.

CVS has announced that it will be closing its Rockville Town Square location at 360 Hungerford Drive (on the corner of Hungerford and Beall). The store will be closing on Wednesday, April 27th, according to signage posted at the store. Customers are being redirected to the nearby Rockville location at 799 Rockville Pike.

Late last year CVS announced that it would be closing approximately 900 stores over the next 3 years due to “changes in population, consumer buying patterns and future health needs.” A CVS location on Veirs Mill Rd. closed last November. New CVS locations in MoCo are planned for Clarksburg (across the outlets) and Gaithersburg (Kentlands).

On Sunday night, WWE wrestler Omos will face off against Bobby Lashley at WrestleMania 38 in Dallas, TX. But, did you know that he attended high school in Rockville? The 7’3, 335 Nigerian-born Jordan Omogbehin moved to America with his family and attended school/played basketball at Montrose Christian for the 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 school years. He went on to attend and play for the University of South Florida before moving back to Maryland and attending/playing for Morgan State University. His college basketball career spanned from 2012 to 2015.

Omogbehin signed with WWE in October 2018, and made his in-ring debut at last year’s WrestleMania 37 in Tampa, FL. Omos won’t have a shortage of people to talk MoCo with at WrestleMania. Shane McMahon, the son of WWE chairman and owner Vince McMahon, was born in Gaithersburg. The McMahons (Vince, his wife Linda, and Shane) even lived in Montgomery Village for about a decade, and the home they owned was recently sold.
