Hyper Kidz Rockville, a new beach-themed indoor playground for kids at 7301 Calhoun Pl. #400, will hold its grand opening on Saturday, December 14. Hyper Kidz is located next to the old True Respite location in what’s technically Derwood, but often considered Rockville.

UPDATE: Grand Opening Weekend has been slightly postponed. Date TBD

L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, located at 785 Rockville Pike, Suite G, in the Ritchie Center in Rockville, has announced its grand opening weekend will take place January 3 to January 6. The restaurant will occupy the space previously home to Superbowl Noodle House, which closed permanently in March. As part of the celebration, L&L Hawaiian Barbecue will raffle off a free iPhone 16.


Ravinklejeet Mathon, 26, of Rockville, was sentenced to five years in prison, followed by five years of probation, for his role in a phone scam targeting a 94-year-old man, in which three gold bars valued at over $229,000 were stolen as part of an international organized crime scheme. (more…)


Parinaz Fathi, a Rockville native who graduated from the University of Maryland in 2015 before moving on to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to complete her Ph.D.in 2020, has been named tot he 2025 Forbes 30 Under 30 List in the Science category. Dr. Joseph Bostic, currently a principal intern at Northwood High School and a former MCPS Teacher of the Year, has been appointed acting principal of Thomas S. Wootton High School effective December 10, 2024. This change follows the administrative leave of Principal Doug Nelson on December 9, after an incident where a racial slur was found written on a student’s desk.

Dr. Peter O. Moran, Chief of Schools for MCPS, shared the following message with the Wootton community:


Earlier today we reported that Wootton High School Principal Douglas Nelson has been placed on leave following an incident where a racial slur was found written on a student’s desk, according to a report by ABC7. MCPS Spokesperson Liliana Lopez confirmed that “the principal has been placed on leave.” but did not provide any additional details. As far as we are aware, this his not been communicated to the Wootton community. Since that report, earlier today, a new letter has been sent to the Wootton community informing of an allegation that a staff member used the N-word when discussing the incident from Monday, December 3rd.
