Last year, our very own “Mr. MoCo” released a list of his favorite steak and cheese subs in Montgomery County. This past weekend, The MoCoShow as a whole released its list of the Top 5 cheesesteaks in Philadelphia, and it coincided with the release of the “Mr. MoCo Cheesesteak” that is now available for a limited time only at SOKO Butcher (7306 Carroll Avenue, Takoma Park, MD). Plaza Mexico, which has two locations in Frederick, has signed on to open a rooftop restaurant and bar at the upcoming North Pointe at Flower Hill, a new 16,000 SF retail and restaurant center located at 18251 Flower Hill Way in Gaithersburg. (more…)


On Monday, we reported that dozens of Red Lobster restaurants across the country, including both Montgomery County locations in Gaithersburg and Silver Spring, had abruptly closed. Contents of these restaurants are currently up for auction at www.restaurantequipment.bid.

Coming soon signage is up for Yummy Bowl Mongolian Stir-fry and Sushi at 2010 Veirs Mill Rd in Rockville. The restaurant will be located in the space previously occupied by Bamboo Buffet in the Twinbrook Center. Malai, a New York City-based ice cream shop, opens in DC at 1407 T Street NW on Saturday, May 18, at 12 p.m. The shop “brings a taste of India in every bite and every cone, through its spice forward flavors, and its creamy textures. We are inspired by the traditions, culture, and heritage that India brings, and we show that through our products, hospitality and design.” Malai is owned by Pooja Bavishi, winner of Food Network’s Chopped Sweets competition.

Remember BD’s Mongolian BBQ in Bethesda? Today we remember BD’s Mongolian BBQ. The Midwest restaurant chain had just one DC area location- at 7201 Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda. For 14 and a half years, from 1998 until August 2012, Mongolian BBQ provided a unique restaurant experience that attracted customers from across the county, state, and even NoVa and DC.
