Earlier this year, ISAAC’S Poultry Market at 12167 Darnestown Rd in Gaithersburg won the Restaurant Association of Maryland’s “best sandwich competition.” With that win, the restaurant was automatically qualified for the World Food Championships, which are taking place this week in Dallas, TX. The opening round is Friday, November 10, and if ISSAC’S advances it will compete on Sunday for the championship.

According to the Restaurant Association, “The World Food Championships is the largest competition in Food Sport, where grand champions of previous events convene for a chance at winning the ultimate food crown and a share of hundreds of thousands of dollars in prize money. This event is also the springboard for many up and coming culinary stars and home cooks as they seek TV fame through many well-known food shows and acting opportunities.”

Sandra Lucas, owner of Kensington consignment shop The Growing Years for the last 30 years, has announced that the shop will be closing on November 18th. With  encouragement from family and friends, she bought The Growing Years in 1998 and has operated the store ever since. The full letter announcing the closure, titled “Thank You and Farewell” can be seen below:

Dear Consignors and Customers,

Brio’s Chicken has announced it will open a location at Westfield Montgomery Mall (7101 Democracy Blvd) in Bethesda. The restaurant will be located in the space previously occupied by Tara Thai, which closed this past spring.  Menu items at Brio’s will includes Peruvian charbroiled chicken, empanadas, paninis, steaks, and seafood. Brio’s plans to be open daily from 8am-9pm and will offer Sunday brunch (full menu below.) No opening timeframe has been announced.

Brio’s Chicken was scheduled to open a location in the Kentlands but after several years of delays and issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the restaurant never materialized.  Brio’s Chicken previously had a location in Aspen Hill in the Aspen Manor shopping center, where Outback is located, but that location is under new ownership and is now known as Gio’s Chicken.

Margarita Bar & Grill has taken over the space that was previously occupied by the Fraternal Order of Eagle #3509 and Captain Mori’s Seafood House. Seafood in the Buff, a mobile steamed crab business, operates out of the parking lot next to this location in the summer months.
