Melina, a new full-service, fine casual Greek restaurant by the founders of Cava, Cava Mezze, and Julii, opened back in November at 905 Rose Avenue in North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose neighborhood. The restaurant announced that it will be opening its outdoor bar to celebrate today’s nice weather.

The outdoor bar is accompanied by a few tables on the patio and will be open when weather permits for it to happen.

&pizza reached out to us today to let us know that their new location at 570 N Frederick Ave in the Gaithersburg Square shopping center will officially open next Monday, March 21.

&pizza will also be giving away free pizza to 600 randomly selected people at a sneak preview event. They tell us, “for those who want their shot at being invited to our sneak peek event, where we’ll be giving away free pizza for 600 randomly selected guests, there’s still time to sign up here: https://andpizza.com/gaithersburg-square-friends-and-family/. For those who don’t get selected for the event, not to worry: we’ll be sending out grand opening offers to everyone who signed up.”

Back in November we let you know that Quickway Japanese Hibachi would be moving in to the location that was formerly home to Fashion Cleaners in the Shoppes of Olney shopping center, between CVS and Bubbles Hair Salon.

The restaurant has now installed permanent signage and construction has progressed, but an opening timeframe has not yet been provided.

Moe’s Southwest Grill at 19222 Montgomery Village Ave will be holding its official “Grand Opening” on Saturday, March 19, and will be giving away free burritos for a year to 25 people. The restaurant has actually been open since February 3, but it’s customary for restaurants to hold their “Grand Opening” ceremony several weeks after they’ve had their initial “soft opening”.

The restaurant tells us that five will be selected on grand opening day and 20 will be selected from the app. According to a press release, “participants must check in through the Moe’s Rewards app between 3/19 to 4/2 to enter. This entitles each winner to one free burrito per week for 52 consecutive weeks.” Per Moe’s: “Welcome to Moe’s!®” will soon be heard in Montgomery Village when Moe’s Southwest Grill® hosts its official grand opening celebration after a successful soft opening earlier this year at 19222 Montgomery Village Ave, Gaithersburg MD 20886 on Saturday, March 19. To celebrate the official grand opening, the restaurant will be giving away Free Burritos for a Year to 25 lucky winners! Participants must check in through the Moe Rewards app between 3/19 to 4/2 to enter. This entitles each winner to one free burrito per week for 52 consecutive weeks.

Popular Montgomery County Greek restaurant, Big Greek Cafe, is debuting a new crispy fish sandwich at all of its locations tomorrow (Tuesday, March 15).

While chicken sandwiches were all the rage the last year or two, this sandwich is made from “fresh, crispy flounder on a brioche bun with you choice of tartar or Greek sauce, and served with fries for $9.99”, per a social media post by the restaurant.

Back in November we let you know that Kung Fu Tea signed on to take over the location that’s as recently home to Yogi Berry, next to Starbucks in the same shopping center as Cava Mezze, CVS, and Cafe Rio at 3128 Olney Sandy Spring Road.

The location will also offer TKK Fried Chicken and Tutti Frutti frozen yogurt. TKK Fried Chicken is a Taiwanese chain that specializes in fried chicken. They’ve been around since 1974 and have locations across Taiwan, China, and the United States. Kung Fu Tea hopes to open in Olney by this summer.

In January we let you know that Tutti Frutti was in the process of transitioning its Kentlands location at 200 Kentlands Boulevard in Gaithersburg to Kung Fu Tea.

The change will be made official this weekend, as Kung FunTea will hold a grand opening that will offer Buy 1 Get 1 Drinks on select drinks (see image below).

According to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page, Hook & Reel at 11006 L-10 Veirs Mill Rd in Wheaton will be officially opening on Tuesday, March 15.  The restaurant held a soft opening on Sunday, March 13 and according to a representative from the Gaithersburg/Montgomery Village location, will hold another soft opening on Monday.

The restaurant is located between Party City and the old Bar Louie.

Permanent Signage is up for Corner Pizza & Subs in Gaithersburg S.C. (that’s the name of the shopping center), behind MoCo’s only Bruster’s.

The restaurant will be taking over the former Jasmine Bakery Cafe location that was previously home to Classic Bakery (18503 N Frederick Ave).

Tacos Don Perez started off as a small, family-run catering business back in 2017. It continued that way until may 2020, when it became a once-a-week home-based pop-up when the family was left without work due to Covid-19. The pop-up quickly gained support from the local community, as Tacos Don Perez sold out in a matter of hours every single week. With the support of their customers, the family was able to buy and custom build their own food truck, which is now located in the Glenmont shopping center.

The truck opened 6 days a week starting in April 2021 and was featured in a Washington Post article on birria tacos across the DMV. Now the family is preparing to open what they’re touting as “the biggest food trailer in Montgomery County.” On Saturday, March 19th they will be hosting a celebration that will include games, giveaways, and music.
