A List of Restaurant Closures in MoCo Since March 17th, 2020
Though this isn’t a list of closures caused by the pandemic, since there is no way to determine every reason behind a closure, 17% of restaurants (over 110,000) have closed since the time it started, according to Business Insider.

Fu Shing Cafe closed permanently in Westlake Crossing, the shopping center next to Montgomery Mall, in July of 2019. Soon after Soy Kitchen was announced as the restaurant that would be taking its place, and after over a year of waiting… a new restaurant has taken over.
The Wok Chinese Kitchen has put temporary signage over the Soy Kitchen sign that had been up for months and has opened at 10315 Westlake Drive.
Ela Mesa Taste of Greece Making Progress in Spectrum Town Center (Gaithersburg)
Ela Mesa Taste of Greece signage has gone up and new deliveries of restaurant equipment and decor have arrived.

New Sushi Restaurant is Coming to the Layhill Shopping Center
We’re told a new sushi restaurant will be moving into the Layhill Shopping Center (14314 Layhill Road), in between Abraham’s Custom Tailor (next to Sang’s Nail Salon) and Papa Nick’s/Sole D’Italia.
We stopped by Mahshad Modern Persian Kitchen, a new restaurant that opened this past June in King Farm, to pick up some dinner.
The restaurant describes itself as having a “new version” of Persian cuisine and offers local, organic food for everyone.
Bear Brick Oven Pizza is Getting Closer in Cloverly
Back in the summer of 2019, we announced that Bear Brick Oven Pizza would be taking over the old Greek Islands Grill location at 15410 New Hampshire Ave. in Cloverly.
Jamaica Mi Crazy is Now Open in Germantown
A new Jamaican restaurant has opened in Germantown (13525 Clopper Rd.).
Hawkers Asian Street Fare Now Open in Bethesda
Hawkers, Bethesda’s newest restaurant, had a soft opening yesterday and today, for which they offered 50% off food items, but we weren’t made aware until about 8pm this evening so we were unable to share with you beforehand.
