It has been nearly two years since we announced Cinnaholic’s impending arrival to Downtown Crown in Gaithersburg.

The bakery, known for its 100% vegan custom cinnamon rolls, has made some progress and expects to open this March or April.

Husband and wife team, Florian and Shannon Radke, opened their first bakery in Berkeley, California in 2010. Four years later, the couple appeared on Shark Tank, where they initially accepted a $200,000 investment for 20% of their company (the deal later fell through due to differences in how investor Robert Herjavec and the Radke’s saw the company moving forward).

Cinnaholic will be located at 230 Crown Park Ave., the former home of Yogiberry, next to Chopt.

After less than a year, BurgerIM has closed in Wheaton Mall.

We were first told of potential trouble for Maryland locations of the Israeli burger chain last week when Restaurant Business reported that the state of Maryland had revoked BurgerIM’s franchise rights in the state, noting that the company has not responded to the suspension the state issued in late December.

The report made it clear that operators could continue to run their business, but it appears the Wheaton location decided to close up shop.

Yelp has also included a “consumer alert” for BurgerIM locations, stating that they “caught someone offering  up cash, discounts, gift certificates, or other incentives in exchange for reviews about the business.”

MoCo still has a BurgerIM location in Downtown Crown in Gaithersburg.

Mango Mango is now open in Downtown Crown (202 Ellington Blvd).

The Asian dessert spot opened its first restaurant in New York’s Chinatown in 2013. Mango Mango serves traditional Hong Kong style sweet soup dessert, modern fusion sweets, and pastries.

Most desserts are made with mango, but there are plenty of non-mango options on the menu.

Back in August we reported that Cinnaholic, a bakery known for its 100% vegan custom cinnamon rolls, is coming to Crown in Gaithersburg.

We’re told the bakery will be located at 230 Crown Park Ave., the former home of Yogiberry, next to Chopt. After a few delays, they expect to open late summer 2019

A few weeks back the first BurgerIM in MoCo opened in Wheaton Mall. Today, we found out that a second MoCo BurgerIM will be opening in Downtown Crown at 200 Ellington Ave., taking over the old Smashburger location.

I spoke with manager Leon Mensah (a Quince Orchard graduate) who told me that if everything goes as planned with permits, it can open as early as late May.

The first Burgerim (an Israeli Burger chain) opened in 2011 and the burger chain has already expanded to over 160 stores worldwide in just over 5 years.

They sell mini-burgers (not sliders) using 2.8 ounce patties that are larger than a slider sized patty. Their selling point is variety, and there’s plenty of it. They offer 11 different types of patties, including beef, dry aged beef, Wagyu beef, merguez, Turkey, lamb, chicken, salmon, veggie, Spanish beef, and falafel.

Their disc shaped fries are more like slices of potatoes, but they also provide the option to get sweet potato fries (in the traditional shape), onion rings, or home fries (cubes potatoes tossed in chili sauce and topped with sesame seeds).

Combo options include the uno (one burger), duo (two burgers), trio (three burgers), and Party Box (16 burgers!). In addition to burgers, Burgerim will offer a variety of sandwiches and salads.

Back in October we wrote about Asian dessert spot Mango Mango potentially coming to Downtown Crown. Today we confirmed that it’ll be opening right next to BurgerIM (the old Smashburger location) at 202 Ellington Ave.

They offer a variety of unique desserts, not all mango-based, which can be seen on their website. There are currently 11 other Mango Mango locations across the United States, with the closest being in nearby Falls Church, VA.

We don’t have an opening date for Mango Mango, but based on previous information we are guessing they’re aiming for this summer.

Thompson Hospitality has decided to close Hen Quarter In Downtown Silver Spring (616 Ellsworth Drive) and replace it with Matchbox according to The Washington Business Journal.

There were previously rumors of Matchbox also replacing Ted’s Bulletin In Downtown Crown (Gaithersburg), but they never materialized before Matchbox sold off the Ted’s Bulletin brand last year.

Matchbox currently has a location in MoCo on Rockville Pike. The new Silver Spring location is expected to open by Spring 2019.

I have yet to receive confirmation from Downtown Crown, but I’ve heard from a couple reliable sources that Mango Mango Dessert is coming to town.

The dessert spot, which isn’t limited to mangos, should open in the first half of 2019.

They offer a variety of unique desserts, which can be seen on their website. There are currently 11 other Mango Mango locations across the United States, with the closest being in nearby Falls Church, VA.
