Commas Food Hall, a new 13,000-square-foot culinary destination on the third level of Ellsworth Place (8661 Colesville Rd) in Downtown Silver Spring, is set to open later this spring or in the early summer. Among its diverse offerings is Claude Have Mercy, a restaurant celebrated for putting a unique seafood twist on beloved dishes.
Crime in the Downtown Silver Spring Business District has decreased by 7.6% over the past year, with significant drops in carjackings (68%), robbery (24%), and homicide (25%) from 2023 to 2024.

The Australian-themed casual dining chain will be located in the space that was previously home to Not Your Average Joe’s at 8661 Colesville Rd. An opening date is not yet available, but it will be the chain’s third Montgomery County location, joining existing restaurants in Aspen Hill and Germantown.
While Outback Steakhouse is an international chain, one of the founders has strong local ties. Chris T. Sullivan, one of the founders of Outback Steakhouse, is a Blair High School alumnus. Sullivan attended the school, and Takoma Park Middle School before that, in the 60s before heading to the University of Kentucky to study business and economics.
According to Montgomery County Police, “On Friday, June 23, 2023, at approximately 1:05 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to City Place Mall (Ellsworth Place) at 8661 Colesville Rd. in Silver Spring for the report of a kidnapping that occurred in the playground of the mall.
The investigation has revealed that 32-year-old Jeffery Akame picked up a two-year-old child victim (male) from the playground. The mother of the victim intervened and took away her child from Akame. Akame then ran away and left the scene.
