The City of Gaithersburg started planning for its newest park last year, a 2.99 acre parcel located at the corner of Decoverly Drive and Steinbeck Avenue in Crown. The park will occupy a portion of the original 175-acre property that was annexed into the City in 2006. While the parcel is a generous size, after accounting for required easements and stream valley buffers, the usable park space will be about 1.5 acres.

Governor Wes Moore announced that Maryland will appeal the Trump administration’s denial of federal disaster assistance for Western Maryland following severe flooding in May, which caused over $15.8 million in damages. Moore emphasized that the impacted communities met FEMA’s criteria and noted that similar requests were approved under the Trump administration when damage thresholds were exceeded.

The Montgomery County Council’s Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee and joint committees will meet on July 24 to review proposed legislation on property tax credits for child care providers, a demolition excise tax to fund affordable housing, labor peace agreements for hotel projects, and tax abatements for public housing authorities, as well as to receive a briefing on the County’s reserve policy. After 1,000 days of continuous planning, enrollment recently opened for the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine for the fall 2025 semester. The school, located in Hagerstown, is the first new medical school in Maryland in over 100 years.
