On Tuesday, a house located at 1700 Tweed St., near Marshall Ave. in Rockville, was struck by lightning, prompting a response from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS). Chief spokesperson Pete Piringer reported that multiple units, including PE721, PE723, PE703, E705B, E718, AT723, PAT718, RS703, A721, BC704, and BC702, were dispatched to the scene off Twinbrook Parkway.

Seneca Valley High School in Germantown, MD, has once again showcased its talent and dedication in the field of skilled trades by participating in SkillsUSA for the second consecutive year. This year, two exceptional 10th-grade students, Jayden Williams and Kedus Anteneh, traveled to Atlanta, GA, to compete in the SkillsUSA National Interactive Application and Video Game Development Competition, where they earned Gold in Maryland and a Top Ten finish nationally.

Ramen by Uzu, renowned for being one of the best ramen restaurants in the area according to The Washington Post, has expanded from its original location inside Union Market to include an additional location at 3210 Grace St NW in Georgetown. Chef Hiro Mitsui, the culinary mind behind Uzu and a resident of Silver Spring, has expressed his ambition to open a location in Montgomery County soon.

Sandy Spring Friends School has announced the arrival of Dr. Sean Hamer as its new Head of School, marking the start of his leadership as the school enters its 64th year. In April, Sandy Spring Friends School announced it will remain open following a $15 million pledge from the Friends of Sandy Spring coalition after initially announcing its closure.

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation has received a $250,000 grant from the Maryland Department of Transportation to support community engagement for Project Connect, a planned 13.9-acre mixed-use development near the North Bethesda Metro Station. The funding will aid outreach efforts as the County partners with WMATA and MDOT to design a transit-oriented hub with housing, retail, and improved transit and pedestrian access. (more…)
