Germantown native Brandon Murray, who attended and played middle school basketball at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Germantown, led his team in scoring today as 12th-seeded McNeese State pulled off a stunning upset against 5th-seeded Clemson in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is continuing its Sweep the Salt pilot program to remove excess road salt from streets near sensitive watershed areas, helping to prevent water contamination. MCDOT reported that the program collected nearly 50 tons of salt and debris following winter storms, and based on initial results, plans to continue the initiative next year.

MCPS has shared that three supporting services employees have been named finalists for the 2025 Supporting Services Employee of the Year. This year’s annual awards, given by SEIU Local 500 and MCPS, are recognizing Esquibel (Celi) Andino, bus operator, Randolph Transportation Depot; Josephine (Josie) Marinucci, school secretary I, Westover Elementary School and John Sparrow, paraeducator, Poolesville High School. The winner will be announced at a celebration in May.
