Back in January, @themocosource reached out to let us know that Baskin Robbins would be coming to the Montgomery Village Shopping Center and we now have confirmation from klnb that the ice cream shop will be coming to the vacant space next to Suburban Hair and Linda’s Nails. Baskin Robbins joins a growing list of restaurants that are all expected to open in the redeveloped MV shopping center by the end of the year that includes Antojitos Salvadoreños Isabel, Boo Boo Pho, Dickey’s BBQ, Hangry Joe’s Hot Chicken, and Kobe Japan. The new Starbucks is at the former site of the Montgomery Village Denny’s (19290 Montgomery Village Ave) opened in last month.

klnb has also announced that Fiesta Laundromat, which currently has a location  7601 New Hampshire Ave in Takoma Park, will be opening in the center, joining The Joint chiropractic care center and Safe Splash Swim School as non-restaurant businesses that have signed leases in the strip mall.

The main feature of the event will be a live art mural spanning more than 100 feet of Nordstrom Court and into Center Court. The mural will be a collaboration between an eclectic group of local artists including Jamilla Okubo, Aniekan Udofia, Christina Wing Chow and Juan Pineda. The mural will wind through the Nordstrom wing to the Center Court with additional surprise pieces throughout the space. Artists will begin live painting opening weekend, kicking off at 5:00 pm on Friday, September 16 and will continue throughout the next three weeks.

Greek Aroma Grill is coming to the Montgomery Mall food terrace. Greek Aroma currently has a location at 177 D Thomas Johnson Dr. in Frederick, MD.  Menu items include gyros, kababs, salads, and souvlaki. No opening date has been announced and the restaurant is currently hiring.

Also coming soon to the mall’s food terrace is Malia’s Kitchen, which will be holding its grand opening on Thursday, September 1. Malia’s is taking over the space that was previously occupied by Lazzaro’s Authentic Italian Deli and Big Al’s Sub Shop. Malia’s Kitchen serves soul food and seafood, which they describe as the best “homemade” down home cooking in the DMV. Items on their menu includes crab cakes, fried chicken, fried fish, and BBQ.

Flip Circus is coming to Montgomery Mall for 2.5 weeks starting September 30th and going until October 17th. The show will be located under a large white and red tent that will be set up in the parking lot area near the Old Navy entrance to the mall.

Shows will take place at 7:30pm Monday-Friday, at 12pm, 3pm, and 6pm on Saturdays, and at 12pm, 3pm, and 7pm on Sundays. Tickets are currently available through the FlipCircus website at a $10 discounted rate.

MacGuffins Bar opened earlier this month inside of AMC Theaters at Montgomery Mall (7101 Democracy Blvd, Bethesda). MacGuffins is AMC’s in-house bar that offers beer, wine, and mixed drinks to moviegoers. According to AMC, “the term “macguffin,” coined by Alfred Hitchcock, refers to a plot device that propels a movie forward. Our specialty cocktails, craft beers and premium wines will be just the thing to turn this movie experience into a story worth remembering.”

Toys “R” Us store-in-store shops are now open inside the Macy’s locations at both Lakeforest and Montgomery Malls. The Macy’s at Wheaton Mall is expected to begin the buildout of its Toys “R” Us soon.

Macy’s is adding the Toys “R” Us store-in-store shops to all of its U.S. locations over the next few months. The shops will range from 1,000-10,000 sq. feet, depending on the size of the Macy’s and will expand during the holiday season to offer a wider assortment of products. HalfSmoke is now open in Montgomery Mall. The restaurant is located in a kiosk in the food terrace that was the former home of Coldstone Creamery and more recently Gelato Galaxy. Though there have been separate restaurants off of the food court that served alcohol (ex: Slade’s), this is the first restaurant/bar that’s actually located in the food court to serve alcohol.

The menu consists of the best selling sausages and sides from their DC location, as well as boozy milkshakes and a funnel cake bar. HalfSmokes sister restaurant Butter Me Up opened its Montgomery Mall location in May.
