Montgomery & Wheaton Mall Openings
Food courts are back open in Montgomery County. Montgomery Mall has opened theirs up at 25% capacity while Wheaton Mall has theirs open at 50% capacity. In February, Montgomery Mall had turned a portion of its outdoor garage into an “enchanted forest dining area” to provide a space for shoppers to dine.
Montgomery & Wheaton Mall Owner Looking to Sell Properties
The Los Angeles Business Journal is reporting that Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) plans to sell all of it’s US holdings in 2022. This would include both Westfield Montgomery and Westfield Wheaton.
March 5th Jollibee Update
Westfield Wheaton has posted on their social media accounts that Jollibee is working “extremely hard to bring you a jolly grand opening” and will make an announcement seven days before their “official opening date.”.

Westfield Wheaton announced this morning that MoCo’s first Jollibee will be opening in two weeks. The Jollibee is located at 2800B University Blvd W., the former site of Baja Fresh.

Montgomery Mall Adds Outdoor Seating
With food courts closed, any carryout items purchased from restaurants at the mall has to be taken out of the mall to eat.
Whenever we do a post looking back at MoCo restaurants from yesteryear, the first place that pops up in the comment section is Little Tavern Burgers (photos below). A little backstory from a 2017 article: In the 1940s, there were almost 50 Little Tavern location in the D.C. and Baltimore Metro area. By the early 90s, that number dropped to 20. The last one closed about a decade ago. Through the years there were 4 MoCo locations (2 in Silver Spring, 1 in Bethesda, and 1 in Wheaton). Most MoCo folks remember the one across from Wheaton Plaza best. One Montgomery County native told me that in the 50s you could buy their famous burgers for .5 cents each, but most people remember the $5 bag of burgers from the 80s/90s. The best part…they were open 24 hours a day.

Investigation Discovery Episode about Missing MoCo Sisters Aired this Weekend
This past weekend, Investigation Discovery aired an episode sharing the story of the the Lyon sisters. The two sisters, Sheila (12) and Katherine (10) disappeared in 1975 during a trip to Wheaton Mall. The girls were never found.
