Filippo’s, which operated as Marchone’s until 2014, opened in 1955. Last November, we reported the deli was sold by Filippo Leo to new owner Shelly Scanzaroli, but Filippo fans need not fear… Shelly has recently unveiled a life-sized cutout of Filippo.

Movie studio Lionsgate has announced that it is developing a new “The Blair Witch Project” with the horror experts at Blumhouse, according to a recent report by the Associated Press. The first installment of the franchise was primarily filmed right here in Montgomery County and was co-written, directed, and edited by Wheaton High School and Montgomery College graduate Eduardo Sánchez.
The MCPS Student Leadership & Extracurricular Activities Unit hosted the second annual Next Generation Leadership Day earlier this month (Saturday, April 6) at Wheaton High School.
The Maryland Attorney General’s Office has announced that Montgomery County Police Officer Justin Lee, who was suspended from the department after being indicted on charges relating to his involvement with the January 6, 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capital, will not be prosecuted for the officer-involved shooting death of a man that stabbed four people on July 22, 2023 in Wheaton.

Montgomery County Police has released surveillance footage of a suspect wanted in connection to a stabbing that occurred in November.
Montgomery County Police are investigating a fatal hit and run that occurred early this morning on Viers Mill Rd in Wheaton-Glenmont that involved an Acura TL. Police are also investigating a separate fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred on Friday, April 5 in Colesville that also involved an Acura.
Montgomery County has announced that its annual RespectFest event will take place on Sunday, April 7 in Wheaton.
