Coming Soon Signage for the “Glenmont Galleria” Sparks Local Buzz as Satirical Story Takes On a Life of Its Own

Originally built in 1952, the Glenmont Shopping Center, known for its iconic “Arcade” sign, holds fond memories for county residents who grew up between the 1950s and 1990s. However, over the past two decades, many have called for the area’s redevelopment. Enter The Montgonion, a satirical news website known for its fictional and humorous takes on Montgomery County’s current events, social issues, and politics. The site decided to “step in” with a tongue-in-cheek update on the future of the shopping center.

Decedent and Officer Identified in Fatal Police-Involved Shooting in Wheaton

Man Armed With Unidentified Object Fatally Shot by Officer During Response to Report of Assault, Investigation Underway

According to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD), a 4th District officer fatally shot an armed man after responding to a reported assault in Wheaton-Glenmont 0n Saturday after the man did not comply to multiple commands.

Wheaton and Edison High Schools Currently on Lockdown Due to Report of Individual With Handgun Near Campuses

UPDATE: MCPD found no active threats at Wheaton and Edison High schools. Lockdowns have been lifted at both schools.

Wheaton High School and Thomas Edison High School are both on lockdown Friday morning due to the report of an individual outside of the school campuses with a handgun.
