Montgomery County Police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a stabbing on Monday night in Wheaton. According to MCPD, “The call came in at approximately 11:44 p.m. when an adult Hispanic male stumbled into the 7-11 at 11400 block of Georgia Avenue suffering from stab wounds. Montgomery County Police officers arrived and began lifesaving measures until Fire Rescue arrived and transported the victim to an area hospital in serious condition. Officers searched the area, but were not able to identify or locate a suspect.”

Per Montgomery County: Four Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) programs are joining efforts to host the first-ever “Growing Up Healthy Child Safety and Resource Fair” from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, at the Wheaton Regional Park. This free event was created to connect families to community resources and services that will help their children grow up healthy. DHHS programs that will be at the fair are the African American Health Program (AAHP), the Babies Born Healthy Program (BBH), the Early Childhood Child Care Support Services and the Improved Pregnancy Outcomes Program. Wheaton Regional Park is located at 2000 Shorefield Rd. in Wheaton. Free parking is available. To attend the event, register online.
“With summer just around the corner, it is important for parents and guardians to have knowledge and resources to keep their kid’s health and safe during summer break and beyond,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “The Growing Up Healthy Resource Fair will offer information about a range of health and safety topics. Montgomery Parks is hosting a pit stop for people pedaling to work on national Bike To Work Day. “Bike riders encouraged to stop by for refreshments and giveaways on Friday, May 19, 2023.” The pit stop will take place between 7am-9am at Marian Fryer Town Plaza, located at 2424 Reedie Drive in Wheaton.
Per Montgomery Parks: Montgomery Parks is co-sponsoring the pit stop with the County Department of Transportation. It willwelcome cyclists in a fun atmosphere with refreshments and giveaways. There are 14 Bike To Work pit stops scheduled in Montgomery County, and more than a hundred in the Washington metropolitan area. Bike To Work Day is a national effort to encourage people to commute to work on bikes instead of by car. The benefits of cycling include better physical health through exercise and improved mental health resulting from time spent outdoors. Cycling can also help improve air quality by cutting down on harmful fossil fuel emissions. Bike To Work Day organizers hope to raise awareness about the rules of the road for drivers, pedestrians,and cyclists. And highlight the need for fair access to low-stress roadways and connected trails for all to use safely.
To coincide with the release of the upcoming live-action Little Mermaid movie, Westfield Wheaton will be hosting a “Make a Splash with Real Mermaids” event on May 27th from 12-4pm in the mall’s lower level Macy’s Court. The event will feature “live” mermaids, a full custom designed mermaid cove, and live DJ.

Last Wednesday, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire at the Wheaton Body Shop that caused approximately $1 million in damage. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but the family who owns the body shop has to rebuild the business from the ground up. A GoFundMe started late last week has already raised over $35,000. Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 12-year-old from Wheaton.
Leah Parham was last seen on Friday, April 28, 2023, at approximately 12 p.m., at Sligo Middle School in the 1400 block of Dennis Ave. Parham is approximately 5-feet, 3-inches tall and weighs 145 pounds. She has black hair with gold strains and dark brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a white short sleeved shirt that says “Clueless” and blue/pink pajama pants with white stars. Police and family are concerned for her welfare.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire at a commercial auto body shop at approximately 7:30pm on the 11300blk of Fern St., near University Blvd. West in Wheaton. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, fighters arrived to heavy fire conditions which included the contents of the building and several vehicles.
By 8:30pm, Piringer tweeted that the bill of the fire had been knocked down, but that numerous hotspots remained. The fire involved the auto body shop and several vehicles. Surrounding roads remained closed for several hours. The fire originated at wire rack shelving, but the cause is still under investigation. Damage is estimated to be approximately $1 million, and no injuries were reported.
