An overturned tractor-trailer caused several lanes to be closed on the outer loop of 495 between Rockville Pike and Old Georgetown Rd around 1am Sunday morning.

According to Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Pete Piringer, MCFRS HazMat assisted in cleaning up the diesel fuel that leaked from the truck’s tanks.

The right lane of I-495 South (Beltway Outer Loop) will be closed above the Dulles Toll Road (Virginia 267), from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 to 5AM Monday, Sept. 27 for bridge joint work, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Additionally, crews will close a 2nd right lane nightly this weekend starting at 11PM. Crews are scheduled to reopen the 2nd lane from the right Saturday and Sunday Mornings at 7AM. 1 right lane will remain closed all weekend. All exit ramps will remain open.

Starting today, the Maryland Department of Transportation has activated 18 ramp meters along I-270 South.  Full details below on what to expect below courtesy of MDOT:

Ramp metering is a part of the I-270 Innovative Congestion Management (ICM) project designed to help reduce congestion on this busy interstate. The system uses sensors that detect real-time traffic conditions and activate traffic signals, when needed, to more efficiently control how traffic merges onto I-270. This will allow motorists to merge safely onto I-270 while minimizing delay and reducing congestion. When ramp metering is in operation:

Work to Resurface Portion of I-495 in Silver Spring to Begin Tonight

Beginning tonight at 9pm, MDOT will begin work to resurface a portion of I-495 between Georgia Ave and Connecticut Ave. The work will be performed Sunday-Friday from 9pm-5am for the next several weeks. Full details per MDOT below:

Drivers in the area will begin seeing flashing yellow lights on the entrance ramps today when merging onto I-270. The lights are expected to become fully operational next month. The ramp lights are apart of the I-270 Corridor Innovative Congestion Management project that Governor Larry Hogan announced back in 2016.

According to MDOT, once the ramp meters are fully operational, the signal will allow one car at a time to go from each lane, optimizing traffic flow onto I-270.
