The Public Safety (PS) Committee will meet virtually on Monday, Jan. 24 at 9:30 a.m. to discuss Expedited Bill 49-21, Police – Police Accountability Board – Administrative Charging Committee – Established, which would establish a Police Accountability Board (PAB) and Administrative Charging Committee (ACC) for the County. Bill 49-21 was introduced by the Council President at the request of the County Executive.

The members of the PS Committee include Chair Sidney Katz, Council President Gabe Albornoz and Councilmember Tom Hucker.

Montgomery County Police are investigating  a possible shooting that occurred at Col. Zadok Magruder High School at 5939 Muncaster Mill Rd in Derwood around 1pm on Friday, according to our public safety reporter Cordell Pugh.


Unleashed by Petco will be closing its Downtown Silver Spring location permanently, according to a sales representative we spoke to earlier today. Unleashed, located at 8412 Georgia Avenue, will close by the weekend of January 29th.

The store first opened in 2015., according to Source of the Spring. Per Petco, Unleashed by Petco was introduced in 2009 with the opening of the first location in San Diego’s Hillcrest neighborhood. “Focusing on exceptional customer service in a fun, pet-friendly environment, Unleashed by Petco combines the personal commitment, intimacy and expertise of a neighborhood pet store with the price/value and rewards of a national retailer.”


The Eleanor at 931 Ellsworth Dr in Silver Spring has announced that they will be requiring customers to provide proof of vaccination in order to dine inside of their restaurant.

The Eleanor posted the following message on their social media pages:


The Montgomery County Council, acting as the Board of Health, met this morning for a public health update and voted to terminate the existing Board of Health regulation that was scheduled to end the indoor mask requirement when Montgomery County reached  an 85% vaccination rate.  Montgomery County is currently at 83.3%.

The mandate is now scheduled to end on January 31st., meaning masks will be required until at least that date.


Ema Rossi Pizzeria at  5556 Norbeck Rd in Rockville announced that due to the rise of COVID-19 cases. the restaurant would be closing until at least January 4.

In a  message posted on their Instagram page, the restaurant thanked its costumers for their patience and support, and said the safety of their staff and patrons is their top priority.
