Black Bear Spotted in Germantown Friday Night

Germantown resident Patty Pastera spotted a black bear in her back yard on Friday night, July 7th shortly after 10pm. “Black Bear on our property last night 7/7/23 at 10:19PM (Black Stallion Way, Germantown MD, along side Route 118. The bear stayed in our yard for 25 mins, knocked down our bird feeder and ate most of the seeds in it, tried to climb the oak tree but way too high for him. Any idea who to call? Maybe they can bring him back to the wild? It’s so unsafe for this bear to be in a dark, busy highway like 118. 😅☺️”

In May and June there were multiple bear sightings in Chevy Chase, Kensington, Rockville, and Burtonsville, with one bear that was trapped and relocated by the Rockville City Police Department and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) on May 8th.

Police and Family Concerned for Missing 16-Year-Old

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Karla Daniela De Paz, a missing 16-year-old from Germantown.

De Paz was last seen on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at approximately 2 p.m., on Stone Hollow Drive. De Paz is approximately 5-feet, 3-inches tall and 120 pounds. She has brown hair with blonde highlights and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a long-sleeved gray shirt and black shorts.

Two-Vehicle Crash on 355 in Germantown Late Wednesday Morning

MCFRS responded to a two-vehicle crash that resulted in Toyota Corolla on its roof on Northbound MD-355, just past Ridge Road in Germantown at approximately 11:15AM on Wednesday morning. Only minor injuries occurred, per our safety reporter Cordell Pugh. The crash caused some delays in the area.

Police and Family Concerned for Missing 23-Year-Old

Tylasia was last seen on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at approximately 12 p.m., leaving her residence on Aberstraw Way in Germantown. Tylasia is approximately 5-feet, 1-inches tall. She was last seen wearing glasses. Police and family are concerned for her welfare.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of locating Tylasia Claudia Russell is asked to call the police non-emergency number at (301) 279-8000 (24-hour line). Callers may remain anonymous.

Concern for Missing 28-Year-Old

Green was last seen on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at approximately 1:46 p.m., in the 19700 block of Germantown Rd. Green is approximately 6-feet, 2-inches tall and weighs 190 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, black jean shorts, black leggings and black boots. He also has a nose ring. Police and family are concerned for his welfare.

Police Respond to Shooting Friday Night in Germantown

Montgomery County Police tweeted the following on Friday, June 30 at 7:41pm: “MCP 5th District officers are investigating a shooting in the 19600 block of Crystal Rock Drive in Germantown. No reported injuries. The scene is secured. More information will be released as it becomes available.”

Vehicle Fire on Ridge Rd Sends One Adult to Burn Center

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a call for a vehicle fire that occurred on Ridge Rd. on Friday afternoon. The fire extended to the home the vehicle was parked at. According to Battalion Chief Jason Blake, one adult was was burned and taken to the burn center. Though there was damage to the home, no residents were displaced.

Food Court Now Open at New Grand Mart in Germantown

Noodles & Friends and Gogi Friends Korean BBQ have opened inside of the food court at New Grand Mart supermarket at 13069 Wisteria Drive in the Germantown Plaza shopping center. Additional vendors, including Tous les Jours (bakery) and Fortune Cha (bubble tea and dessert) are expected to open by the end of July. Menu items at Noodles & Friends include JjaJang (noodles with blackbean sauce), Jjampong (seafood soup), KimChi fried rice, and Shrimp Tangsu. Menu items at Gogi Friends includes BulGogi, Bibim Bap, Ramyeon noodles, and dumpling soup.

New Grand Mart opened in the space previously occupied by Lotte Plaza on June 8th. According to its website, “New Grand Mart carries a variety of fresh produce, fish, meats, and ethnic specialty items that is hard for other markets to match.”
