Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 5th District Investigative Section are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 19-year-old from Germantown. Melchizedek Meredith was last seen on Thursday, March 16, 2023, in the 18300 block of Cottage Garden Dr.

Meredith is approximately 6-feet, 2-inches tall and weighs 175 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair. It is unknown what he was last seen wearing. Police and family are concerned for his welfare.


Update: Dakota Lilian Nicole Smith has been located safe and unharmed

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Dakota Lilian Nicole Smith, a missing 14-year-old. Smith was last seen on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at approximately 1:20 a.m., in the 20100 block of Loading Rock Place of Montgomery Village. Smith is believed to be in the Germantown area, driving a silver 2011 Chevy Malibu bearing MD tag 5BA4544.


Signage is up for Margaritas Bar & Grill at 19201 Frederick Rd in Germantown. The restaurant is taking over the space that was previously occupied by the Fraternal Order of Eagle #3509 and Captain Mori’s Seafood House. Seafood in the Buff, a mobile steamed crab business, operates out of the parking lot of this location in the summer months.  No additional information is known about the new restaurant at this time. There are two Margaritas Bar & Grill locations in Georgia, and signage at the Germantown location reads “serving Middle GA since 1988,” but it is unclear if the restaurants are related.


Signage is up for Charleys Philly Steaks inside of the Germantown Walmart at 20910 Frederick Rd. Charleys is taking over the space formerly occupied by McDonald’s. Charleys will also be opening an additional Germantown location later this year at 19877 Century Blvd in Germantown, taking over the location that was previously home to Roll by Goodyear and Yogi Castle in the Shops at Town Center & Century Station shopping center. No opening date for the Wal-Mart Charleys has been announced.

Charleys opened a location at 405 N Frederick Ave in Gaithersburg, in the location that was recently home to Teriyaki Express, back in September and closed its Lakeforest Mall location in January.


Parim Shah and Nimay Sharma, sixth grade students at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School in Germantown, won the grand prize in this year’s C-SPAN 2023 StudentCam documentary competition. They will receive $5,000 for their documentary, “Where’s My Data? Data Privacy and its Real World Impact.” Students were asked to create a documentary on the theme, “If you were a newly elected member of Congress, which issue would be your first priority and why?”

The annual competition was open to middle and high school students across the nation. Students from eight schools—Montgomery Blair, Winston Churchill, Poolesville, Richard Montgomery and Rockville high schools, and Eastern, Martin Luther King and Westland middle schools—placed in the competition. Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 5th District Investigative Section are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 29-year-old from Germantown. Huy Hoang Le was last seen at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, in the 13400 block of Wisteria Drive in Germantown.

Le was last seen wearing a black and grey north face sweater and beige pants.  He also wears glasses. Huy Hoang Le is 5-feet, 8-inches tall and weighs 170 pounds. Family and police are concerned for his welfare.


Montgomery County Police issued a press release today announcing that a traffic stop in Germantown on March 8 led to the discovery of 20 suspected Fentanyl pills, approximately 21 grams of suspected Crystal Methamphetamine, Crack Cocaine and drug paraphernalia. This is the third press release regarding traffic stops that MCPD has released since Councilmember Will Jawando introduced Bill 12-23, the Safety and Traffic Equity in Policing (STEP) Act, on February 28, which will limit traffic stops that he says have resulted in racial disparities.

Per MCPD: “Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 5th District Community Action Team have arrested 38-year-old Harry Perkins of Germantown for Possessing Fentanyl and Crystal Methamphetamine with the Intent to Distribute, on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.  At approximately 11:35 p.m., officers observed a Chevrolet Equinox commit a moving violation in the area of Circle Gate Dr. and Wisteria Dr. Officers initiated a traffic stop of the Chevrolet in the area of Great Seneca Hwy. and Wisteria Dr.


Montgomery County Police issued a press release today announcing that a traffic stop in Germantown on February 17 led to the discovery of a stolen semi-automatic rifle and drug paraphernalia containing methamphetamine. Last week, MCPD announced that a separate traffic stop led to the discovery of over 2,000 fentanyl pills. Traffic stops have been  the topic of debate recently as Councilmember Will Jawando introduced Bill 12-23, the Safety and Traffic Equity in Policing (STEP) Act, on February 28, which will limit traffic stops that he says have resulted in racial disparities.

Per MCPD: Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 5th District Community Action Team have filed criminal charges against 28-year-old Humberto Guerra Jr. of Silver Spring and 41-year-old Freya Marla Casanova, unknown address, following a February traffic stop.  On Friday, February 17, 2023, at approximately 11:25 p.m., officers observed a Toyota Camry travel eastbound on Wisteria Dr. and Great Seneca Hwy. Officers initiated a traffic stop of the Toyota for maintaining a suspended registration in the area of Middlebrook Rd. and Great Seneca Hwy.
