Gaithersburg

A water main break late this morning has now closed Dufief Drive, near the area of Dufief Elementary School, between Darnestown Road and Brandyhall Lane.

WSSC Water crews are now on the scene of the 12” break, which was the cause of Dufief Elementary School closing at noon today.


Rockville

Residents 18-and-older interested in lessons and safety clinics regarding e-scooters will have the opportunity to attend four free clinics in September and October sponsored by the Montgomery County Department of Transportation.

Participants can take a test ride, learn safety tips and get details on basic scooter laws. Participants must have a valid driver’s license. No registration is required to attend a clinic. The clinics generally will last about two hours and e-scooters will be available at each site. Those interested in e-scooters can stop in at any time during the two-hour clinics.

Join MoCo EmpowHER for their upcoming Women in Higher Education event on Tuesday, Oct. 19 from 6-7:30 p.m. This virtual event features female-identifying panelists in higher education. This event is free to all MCPS students who are interested in hearing from graduate students, professors, program managers, and getting advice and guidance for college applications!


Wheaton Mall

We let you know back in November that Jongro BBQ, a popular New York Korean BBQ restaurant, is opening up shop at Wheaton Mall. The latest update we have received from Westfield Wheaton is that the restaurant is expected to open in January, 2022.

The restaurant is known for its wide variety of cuts that are not  found in most other Korean restaurants. According to their website, their “beef and pork are produced with only natural feeds.”


MoCo

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will celebrate the one-year anniversary of the County’s first rapid transit service—the Flash—with special greetings of riders on Thursday, Oct. 14.  More than 500,000 riders have used the frequent and reliable Flash service. And now the County is looking toward expansion.

MCDOT outreach teams will be at several Flash stations on Oct. 14 to greet riders, solicit feedback about the service and distribute Flash anniversary items to riders.


MCPS

According to a letter sent to families and students of Winston Churchill High School, a female student of the school was assaulted on school property around 11:30 Wednesday morning. The incident occurred at the bus loop while students were on lunch break.

When a parent intervened, the assailant threatened the parent and another Churchill student with knife and then fled the property. The victim sustained minor injuries.
