To address spacing needs in the mid-county region, planning and construction was previously approved for the upcoming Crown High School which is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2027. Construction is moving along, with plenty completed but still a lot left to go.
Residents in the area have seen Pepco bills increase, and the company is extending support measures through March to help customers manage higher energy costs. On August 22, the New Neighbor Interfaith Alliance (NNIA) will host the 2026 Set Them Up for Success Volleyball Tournament and Family Fun Day from 9 am-4 pm at the Interdenominational Church of God in Gaithersburg, gathering volleyball teams, faith community members, and the public to raise funds to help recent refugees in Montgomery County attain independence.
An interfaith non-profit alliance of 37 faith communities and civic groups, NNIA raises funds to help resettled refugees with rental assistance, deferred medical care, English language skills and job placement. They also hope to expand their volunteer numbers to help more beneficiaries with job assistance, reliable transportation, and mentoring.

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has provided new details about the arrest of two individuals after a drug transaction, during which one suspect attempted to escape by ramming a police vehicle and was found with over two pounds of marijuana and a stolen handgun.
Chief Antonio DeVaul of the Takoma Park Police Department has announced that there are vacancies on the Police Chief’s Advisory Board for individuals aged 16 to 21.
The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has arrested 37-year-old Wilmer Alvarado-Gomez of Rockville for sexually assaulting a child and is concerned there may be additional victims. He has been charged with multiple counts of second-degree rape and is being held without bond. (more…)
