Following a multiyear renovation, the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently announced that the Washington D.C. Temple would be open for public tours for the first time since 1974. Due to high demand, the open house will be extended and the rededication of the temple will now be on August 14th, 2022.

Due to continuing COVID-19 concerns, the closure of Beach Drive for bridge replacement, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ focus on the Washington DC Temple Open House and Rededication in Spring 2022, the 44th Annual Festival of Lights has been cancelled.

The Temple and Visitors’ Center grounds will not have Christmas lights this year. The Visitors’ Center will remain closed until the Temple Open House in 2022.
