Due to continuing COVID-19 concerns, the closure of Beach Drive for bridge replacement, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ focus on the Washington DC Temple Open House and Rededication in Spring 2022, the 44th Annual Festival of Lights has been cancelled.

The Temple and Visitors’ Center grounds will not have Christmas lights this year. The Visitors’ Center will remain closed until the Temple Open House in 2022.


Kensington

On Wednesday, September 29 at 7 p.m., the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will host a virtual public hearing to discuss a proposed sidewalk on Decatur Avenue, just West of Connecticut Avenue, in Kensington.

At the virtual meeting, MCDOT will present the project scope, its conceptual design, costs, schedules and obtain public feedback.

The Kensington Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) is hosting a Remembrance Ceremony to mark the 20th Anniversary of 9/11. The Remembrance will take place on Saturday, September 11, at the KVFD’s 9/11 Memorial.

The KVFD’s 9/11 Memorial features artifact metal from the World Trade Center, as well as a piece of the damaged limestone façade of the Pentagon. The Memorial is located next to KVFD Station 705, at 10620 Connecticut Avenue in Old Town Kensington.

Capital Park Police’s Montgomery County Division is investigating multiple reports of deliberately placed hazards found along Beach Drive between Garrett Park Road and Knowles Avenue.

Since the month of July, officers have received five calls for service of reports for wooden boards with protruding nails/screws found along Beach Drive.
