Education

State Superintendent Karen B. Salmon urged Maryland schools to reopen and bring students back into the buildings at the December 8th Maryland State Board of Education meeting.

As part of the state’s plan of reopening schools, the MSDE has worked jointly with the Maryland Department of Health to create guidelines and local boards of education and superintendents to follow. Salmon also asked for teachers, school staff, and early child care workers to be a priority group for the COVID-19 vaccine in Maryland’s tier system.

Beyond MoCo

Last November, the Netflix show “The Crown” reached Netflix’s top 10 most watched shows. The hit drama follows Queen Elizabeth II’s long reign of Great Britain. Unfortunately, the show didn’t cover the Queen’s tour to the United States and Canada in 1957. The Maryland Terrapins were playing against the North Carolina Tar Heels. While watching her first game of American football, the Queen stood next to Maryland governor Theodore McKeldin (to the right in the photo) and University of Maryland president Wilson Homer “Bull” Elkins (to the left in the photo).
