Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services and Montgomery County Police responded to a collision involving a pedestrian around 1:20PM on Thursday, March 16. According to public safety reporter Cordell Pugh, the incident occurred at Northbound US-29 Columbia Pike, near Stewart Ln in White Oak. Montgomery County Police tweeted the following at 2:12PM: “All lanes at northbound 29 at New Hampshire Ave. are closed. All southbound lanes of 29 are open. Drivers can use Old Columbia Pike as an alternate route to continue northbound on 29. Expect significant delays.” We will post an update when additional information is available.

Bethesda

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire at the Ourisman Volkswagen and Volvo Bodyshop at 5445 Butler Rd in Bethesda on Friday afternoon. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, a hybrid vehicle that was parked in the garage’s work bay area caught fire after workers “likely ignited some combustibles” while performing welding work. The building’s automatic fire sprinkler activation system controlled/contained the fire until firefighters arrived. Damage is estimated to be ~$50K and there were no injuries reported.

Beyond MoCo

Crawford is a former Police Chief for the City of Laurel, where he last served from 2006 until his resignation in 2010. Prior to that, Crawford was Chief of the District Heights Police Department and served as a Major for the Prince George’s County Police Department. Investigators say none of the civilian victims of the fires were connected to Crawford through his law enforcement career.


Potomac

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) responded to a fire in the 10500 blk of Streamview Ct, near Bells Mill Rd, off Great Arbor Dr in Potomac around 6:30pm on Saturday, February 25. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire began in the chimney of the two-story, single family house, and extended to the roof and attic. The occupants were able to escape when no injuries. One family has been displaced. We will post an update if additional information becomes available.

Potomac

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision involving a MCPS school bus and a passenger vehicle on Wednesday morning. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the collision occurred around 9am on Accord Dr in Potomac. All 30 passengers on the bus were evaluated by EMS and there were no injuries reported. Passengers were then transferred to another bus.

Rockville

The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) Technical Rescue Team responded to the Montgomery County Shady Grove Transfer Station and Recycling Center at 16101 Frederick Rd in Rockville on Tuesday afternoon after a vehicle was dumping trash on the tipping floor, its weight shifted, and the occupied cab went up in the air. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, rescue crews stabilized the truck and have removed the driver. There were no injuries reported.

Germantown

Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision with entrapment on Sunday afternoon in Germantown. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the collision occurred around 3:00PM in the area of Father Hurley Boulevard and Crystal Rock Drive, near Cloverly Center Drive. EMS is currently evaluating several patients. Some lanes are blocked and drivers are advised to seek an alternate route. We will post an update when additional information is available.

Burtonsville

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire around 3pm on Sunday afternoon in Burtonsville.  According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, firefighters responded to the report of a boat on fire in the rear of a garage in the 15500 block of Santini Rd. The fire was knocked down and there was no extension. The garage contained one boat and one RV motorhome. One civilian was evaluated for injury. The cause of the fire has not been released. We will post an update if additional information becomes available.
