Rockville Exxon station sold big Double Play winner on Sept. 27, 2021

March brings a change of seasons from winter to spring, but this year it also heralds the expiration of four big winning Maryland Lottery tickets — including a $10 million Powerball prize.

On March 28, a $10 million Powerball ticket will expire, unless the winner comes forward to claim it.

The ticket was sold Sept. 27, 2021 at Rockville Exxon, 11433 Rockville Pike in Rockville, and the winner paid the extra $1 for the Double Play option. The lucky ticket matched the first five numbers plus the Powerball number in that night’s Double Play drawing. It marked the first top-prize-winning ticket sold for Double Play, which was added to the Powerballlineup on Aug. 23, 2021.

Since then? Crickets.

No one has claimed the life-changing $10 million windfall. Anyone who purchased a Powerball ticket last September at Rockville Exxon is strongly encouraged to check and see if that extraordinary slip of paper is in a drawer somewhere, stuck on a refrigerator with a magnet, wedged into a wallet, or in some other ordinary location.

The Lottery strongly encourages players to sign the backs of their winning tickets on the signature line immediately to prevent someone else from claiming the prize. Winning tickets for Maryland Lottery draw games expire 182 days (about six months) after the date of the drawing, so time is running out.

Expiration also looms in March for three other substantial prizes:

  • A Powerball ticket worth $50,000 sold Sept. 19 at Al’s Beer Wine & Restaurant, 6224 Oxon Hill Road in Oxon Hill, expires March 21.
  • A Powerball ticket worth $50,000 sold Sept. 22 at Giant #150, 46 Bureau Drive in Gaithersburg, expires March 23.
  • A Keno ticket worth $14,412 sold Sept. 22 at The Greene Turtle of Aberdeen, 1113 Beards Hill Road in Aberdeen, expires March 23.

Montgomery County couple wins big on Ca$h Bonus scratch-off

Per MD Lottery:

A Gaithersburg man and his wife are thankful that they celebrated early this year, as ripping into a gift pre-holiday delivered a whopping surprise. A $10 Ca$h Bonus scratch-off the man purchased while travelling through Montgomery County for work won a $50,000 prize.

After completing a job nearby, the lucky man said he stopped at Quince Orchard Shell at 501 Quince Orchard Road in Gaithersburg to pick up a few scratch-offs for his wife before heading home.

“She loves scratch-offs, so I stopped to pick up a few for a pre-holiday surprise,” said the winner.

The couple scratched them together later that evening. When his wife got to the last ticket of the bunch, she quickly got a big surprise.

“She scratched off a $10,000 prize and showed it to me, then several more appeared one by one,” he said.

When the tally from their ticket hit $50,000, the duo needed additional verification before they could believe their luck. After scanning the ticket at a nearby retailer’s ticket checker, it became clear they would soon be headed to Lottery headquarters.

“I still don’t believe it. This is very exciting,” said the man.

The lucky winner says that he and his wife will use the winnings to zero out a few monthly expenses. They also plan to use a portion of the prize to help their parents.

The Ca$h Bonus ticket joined the Maryland Lottery’s lineup of scratch-off games in August. The game has five remaining unclaimed $100,000 top prizes, along with five more $50,0900 prizes and thousands of additional prizes ranging from $10 to $10,000.

A Silver Spring resident who plays Lottery games every now and then is still in awe about his latest score. The 60-year-old bought five VIP Club scratch-offs and, after finding four non-winners, became speechless when the fifth instant ticket revealed a $2 million top prize.

The new multimillionaire’s journey to good fortune began when he visited Bowie Exxon located at 1500 North Crain Highway in Prince George’s County. His initial plan was to buy gas there and buy instant tickets at another Lottery retailer. However, after leaving the gas station, the winner experienced a strong feeling about the scratch-offs he’d left unpurchased at Bowie Exxon. The Montgomery County man made a U-turn, revisited the store and purchased the five instant tickets.

When he revealed the prize, “my mouth dropped open,” the happy winner said. He checked the instant ticket several times using the Lottery app on his phone to confirm what he was seeing. After checking his scratch-off numerous times, the player was finally convinced of his Lottery luck.

The lucky man, who has worked in the mortgage industry for more than 30 years, plans to invest his prize in rental properties.

The $30 VIP Club instant ticket went on sale in February. Players can still find two more $2 million top prizes, four $50,000 prizes and more than 527,000 smaller prizes of $30 to $5,000. The game is one of four $30 scratch-offs now on sale statewide.

The management of Bowie Exxon is also in the money. The retailer will receive a $2,000 bonus for its role in selling a $2 million top-prize winning scratch-off.

Per MD Lottery:

He works at a car wash by day and plays scratch-offs by night, a Montgomery County resident told Lottery officials this week. He limits his evening fun to one instant ticket. Last week, however, a spur-of-the moment break from routine led to a $100,000 Lottery windfall and one of the happiest moments of his life.

“I was in the mood for a $10 scratch ticket so I picked $1,000 Loaded,” said the Silver Spring resident. He had won with the game in recent weeks, making it his current favorite among the Lottery’s $10 scratch-off offerings. He planned to stick with his routine and buy just one of the $1,000 Loaded games when he stopped in at Wheaton Winery in Silver Spring.

“But when the clerk handed me my ticket, I saw that there was only one left. Something told me to buy that last ticket.”

Our 70-year-old winner uncovered his $100,000 fortune later that evening, before the rest of his family returned home. Wouldn’t you know it? His winning scratch-off was not the first instant ticket but was that remaining game he couldn’t pass up.

“I was amazed, just about the happiest I’ve ever been,” he reports. “But I had to wait until my family arrived before I could really celebrate. We’re a pretty low-key group, but, boy, was that a fun night.”

The $100,000 prize will help pay off his home mortgage, he said, with the remainder available to help family members whenever assistance is needed. “I’m very happy to be in a position now to help the people I love.”

The good folks at Wheaton Winery located at 2211 University Boulevard in Silver Spring played the middleman in this fairytale story.  For selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, the Montgomery County retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.

Many prizes remain in the $1,000 Loadedgame, which debuted in May. There are four more $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-offs awaiting discovery along with five $20,000 second-tier prizes and 15 $10,000 prizes.

Rockville Woman Wins $1.4 Million Prize with Quick-Pick Ticket From Grocery Store

Per MD Lottery:

“Why not,” is what a Rockville woman says to herself when she visits the grocery store and sees Maryland Lottery games. The 20-year-old decided to let herself play recently and the odds were definitely in her favor. She purchased a Multi-Match quick-pick ticket for the April 22 drawing and, to her great surprise, won $1.4 million.

“I just got lucky,” the happy winner said. After buying groceries, she uses her change to buy Lottery tickets and didn’t suspect to land a jackpot prize. “I was very surprised, I was not expecting it at all.” In addition to playing Multi-Match, she enjoys playing Mega Millionsand Powerball.

When asked of her plans for the windfall, the Montgomery County resident said she plans to make investments with her prize.

This lucky lady won the second of the three Multi-Match jackpots hit in 2021. A Baltimore County woman won a $2.75 million jackpot on Feb. 4 on a ticket sold by 7-Eleven #32287 in Owings Mills. And, a Multi-Match subscriber just won a $520,000 jackpot in the May 3 drawing.

Our player’s winning Lottery retailer, Giant #319 located at 625 Hungerford Drive in Rockville, can also celebrate. The Lottery will give the grocery a $1,400 bonus for selling a winning Multi-Match ticket of more than $1 million.
