Following the announcement, the representatives had the opportunity to observe the College’s Healthcare Heroes Camp and tour the building.

“STEM camps offered over the summer to middle and high school students across the county are designed to develop passions or increase interest in STEM programs,” said Dr. Sanjay Rai, Montgomery College senior vice president for Academic Affairs. “These programs are vital to building a homegrown talent pipeline. These scholarships provide additional benefits to our middle and high school students and will help more students participate each summer.”

Montgomery College Welcomes President of Holy Cross Health Network and Former Dual Enrollment Student as Newest Board of Trustees Members

Holy Cross Health Network is Holy Cross Health’s community-based operating division. Holy Cross Health Network operates safety-net health centers and primary care sites; provides more than 200,000 community health encounters annually through programs such as Senior Fit, perinatal education, Chronic Disease Self-Management and community health worker outreach; leads community engagement to promote health equity; oversees Holy Cross Health’s $57 million community benefit program; leads Holy Cross Health’s population health initiatives; and guides the organization’s advocacy initiatives.

Trustee Cody serves as the board chair for Nexus Montgomery Regional Partnership, a joint venture of all six Montgomery County hospitals, focused on reducing avoidable utilization and improving health in our community in ways that no single hospital could accomplish on its own. She is on the Board of Directors of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the leadership group of Montgomery Moving Forward, a community collaborative using the collective impact framework to create a better early care and education system for our community.

First Ever Civilian Assistant Police Chief No Longer Employed by Montgomery County

Carmen Facciolo, who was appointed as Montgomery County’s first civilian assistant police chief in June 2021, is no longer employed by the Montgomery County government, according to a report by WTOP. Facciolo was suspended by the Montgomery County Police Department back in June of this year. At the time, Chief Marcus Jones issued a department-wide email acknowledging the suspension, saying “Effective immediately, all duties and authority vested in the Chief of the Community Resources Bureau are vested in Captain Marc Erme. This will remain in place until further notice.” No statement was released by MCPD or Montgomery County on why Facciolo was originally suspended, citing that it was a “personnel matter.”

From a June 2021 article: “Assistant Chief Facciolo joins the Montgomery County Police Department from the Bronx District Attorney’s Office where he served as a Deputy Chief overseeing the Strategic Enforcement and Intergovernmental Relations Division. In this role, Assistant Chief Facciolo directed all intelligence and crime strategies efforts, technical investigations including crime scene, photo, cell-site analysis, and digital forensics, forensic science services, strategic technology, the planning and analysis unit, and the alternatives to incarceration bureau. Assistant Chief Facciolo served as District Attorney Clark’s liaison to federal, state, and local law enforcement, forensics, and intelligence agencies, and managed her relationships with federal and state elected officials, local legislators, The Hill, and stakeholder organizations. Lastly, Assistant Chief Facciolo coordinated the county’s response to major law enforcement incidents, the opioid epidemic and mental health and crisis intervention services.

Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services Staff to Conduct ‘Sign Sweep’ to Collect Illegally Placed Signs on Thursday, Aug. 4

The “sign sweep” will take place on County-maintained roads and at intersections with State highways. DPS will not be removing signs from private property.

DPS Zoning and Code Compliance Manager Greg Nichols said inspectors will be forming teams to target assigned areas around the County.

At the celebration, County Executive Marc Elrich and County Council President Gabe Albornoz issued a joint proclamation recognizing the commission’s accomplishments in advancing and protecting women’s rights since its establishment in 1972.

In addition to County Executive Elrich and Council President Albornoz, among those at the celebration were CFW Chair Donna Rojas, County Councilmember Nancy Navarro, founding commissioner and former Congresswoman Connie Morella, CFW Executive Director Jodi Finkelstein and Sandy Spring Museum Board of Directors President Naomi Yadin-Mendick.

Montgomery County Reopens Fourth Phase of COVID-19 Rent Relief Program; Previously Incomplete and New Applications Will Be Accepted

“I am pleased to announce the reopening of the rental relief program. We have additional funds to distribute, and we know that the need for this assistance has not gone away,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “The impact of this pandemic will be with us for quite some time, so I urge eligible residents who are in need to not delay and apply today.”

The rent relief program launched in May 2020 and as of July 24, has distributed $79.1 million in financial assistance. Funding for the fourth phase was provided by U.S. Treasury Emergency Rental Assistance funds in direct allocations to the County and as a sub-grantee to the State of Maryland.

Commuters in MoCo Can Get Reimbursed Up to $280/Month for Using Public Transit or Vanpools

In addition to vanpools, the program could cover expenses incurred by commuters using Ride On bus, Metrobus, Metrorail or MARC train to commute to and from a workplace within Montgomery County.

Businesses looking to implement or expand a transportation benefit program must commit to covering the first $25 per month of travel costs for employees who use buses or vanpools. The County will cover expenses over the initial $25, up to $280 a month. The full subsidy could be as high as $3,360 per year, per employee. It is tax-free to both the employee and the employer.

Montgomery County Office of Procurement Wins Achievement in Excellence Award from NPI and Four NACo Awards

The award from the National Procurement Institute is the ninth received by the Office of Procurement. The prestigious annual award is presented to organizations that demonstrate excellence based on criteria designed to measure innovation, professionalism, productivity, e-procurement and leadership attributes of the procurement organization.

The Office of Procurement has received 11 NACo awards in the last 10 years. In the past two years, Procurement received eight NACo awards.

Press Conference Postponed on Resolution to Define and Address Antisemitism

The resolution, introduced by the Council and led by Councilmember Friedson, was introduced in response to the disturbing rise of antisemitism and acts of assault, vandalism and harassment against Jewish community members and Jewish organizations across the County and nation.

As originally drafted, the resolution proposes the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism and reaffirms the Council’s commitment to combat all forms of hate and extremism and reflects the Council’s strong support for and solidarity with Montgomery County’s Jewish community.

Individuals, business owners can apply to receive a voucher or rebate to offset the cost of a security camera on property in high priority areas

ROCKVILLE, Md., July 26, 2022—The Montgomery County Council voted to enact a new public safety bill today that seeks to deter and solve crime by incentivizing the purchase of private security cameras by residents and businesses in areas experiencing relatively high incidences of crime.
