Interim Superintendent Dr. Monifa B. McKnight has been honored with the Outstanding Educator Award from the Mu Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. She was given the award because of her invaluable contributions to MCPS.

A Few Good Athletics Accomplishments

Congratulations are also in order for several MCPS teams and student-athletes for their championship wins. Among them:

  • The Poolesville High School Golf team won the 2021-22 2A State Championship.
  • Quince Orchard defeats Henry Wise for Class 4A title
  • Olivia Cong of Poolesville High School was named the 1A/2A State Golf Champion.
  • The Walt Whitman High School girls’ soccer team won the 2021-22 4A State Championships.
  • Varri Higgins of Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School was named 4A State Cross Country Champion and Daisy Dastrup of Poolesville High School was named 2A State Cross Country Champion.
  • The Gaithersburg High School Cross Country team won the 4A State Sportsmanship award.

The Montgomery County Board of Education approved the appointment of Deputy Superintendent Dr. Monifa B. McKnight as the acting/interim superintendent for MCPS.

Effective June 1, she will serve as acting superintendent and will fully assume the position of interim superintendent July 1.

Prior to being named the Deputy Superintendent of MCPS, Dr. McKnight served as the Chief School Management and Instructional Leadership Officer for the Howard County Public School System.

She was previously the Director for Secondary Leadership Development Programs for MCPS and also served as the principal of Ridgeview Middle School, where she received the Maryland Middle School Principal of the Year award.
