Gaithersburg

On Monday, Roaming Rooster announced that its newest location at 511 Quince Orchard Rd in Gaithersburg will now be open 11am-10pm daily. The restaurant is located in the space previously occupied by Duck Donuts in the Firstfield Shopping Center. Last week, we reported that Roaming Rooster was holding its soft opening and would be open daily from 11am-4pm. The restaurant has an official grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting scheduled for February 15. Roaming Rooster is known for its variety of buttermilk fried chicken sandwiches that vary in heat depending on the diner’s preferences – mild, medium or hot. In addition to its free-range, grain-fed, antibiotic-free and Halal chicken. Roaming Rooster also offers wings, chicken tenders and hand-cut fries.

Gaithersburg

Sweetgreen at 299 Copley Place Suite D100 in Gaithersburg, which held its soft opening this past weekend, will hold its official grand opening on Tuesday, January 24.  According to Sweetgreen, “for every bowl sold on opening day, we will donate a bowl to Manna Food Center to fight hunger in Montgomery County through food, education, and advocacy. The 2,530 sq ft location will accommodate 20 diners outside and 28 diners inside through their expansive banquet seating. The restaurant will also feature a designated pick-up entrance close to the building’s parking spaces for seamless pickup. Store hours are 10:30am to 10pm, seven days a week.

Sweetgreen has also commissioned DC-based artist Christine Cover to create an acrylic and oil stick piece for the restaurant and will be giving away a print of the artwork to the first 150 customers. Sweetgreen currently has three additional MoCo locations, in Bethesda, Downtown Silver Spring, and Pike & Rose. Downtown Crown has been without a fast-casual salad restaurant since Chopt closed in early 2020 and has since moved that location to the Kentlands neighborhood


Rockville

Grandma’s Ice Cream and Waffles at 389 E. Gude Dr in Rockville, next to the former Branded 72/O’Brien’s restaurant space, has announced it will be opening this Monday, January 23. Grandma’s is being opened by the same owners as the “Grandma Kona’s” Kona Ice franchise in Gaithersburg/Germantown. Additional information, as well as a $1 coupon, below:

Gaithersburg

Roaming Rooster is located in the space previously occupied by Duck Donuts in the Firstfield Shopping Center. Duck Donuts permanently closed in August. The restaurant is currently open 11am-4pm and will be extending its hours beginning next week.

Gaithersburg

Sweetgreen will be holding a soft opening for its new Gaithersburg location at 299 Copley Place D100 in Downtown Crown this Friday, January 20 and Saturday, January 21. The official grand opening will be held on Tuesday, January 24. You can register for a free meal at the soft opening or a $5 app credit to use during the grand opening week at this link.

Silver Spring

Dunkin’ is now open at 14328 Layhill Road in Silver Spring. The store will hold its official grand opening this Saturday, January 21 beginning at 9am and the first 100 guests will receive free coffee for one year. The event will also feature a ribbon cutting, prize wheel, and an appearance by Dunkin’ mascot Cuppy. Additional details below courtesy of Dunkin:

“At 10:00 a.m. on January 21, local Dunkin’ franchisee Jesse Luis will host the store’s official ribbon cutting, followed by a check presentation to award Driven to Cure with a $1,000 grant in partnership with the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation. Dunkin’ mascot Cuppy will be on hand for the festivities, which will include free merchandise and a chance for guests to spin Dunkin’s Prize Wheel.


Montgomery Mall

Australian based jewelry chain Lovisa opens today, January 12, at 11am at Montgomery Mall (7101 Democracy Blvd, Bethesda). According to its website, “We are the fashionable on-trend jewelry specialist. See our latest styles & curated range for every occasion. Bethesda

Andy’s Pizza, the 2021 winner of the International Pizza Challenge™, is coming to Montgomery County with an upcoming location at 4600 East West Highway– the former site of sandwich shop Booeymonger in Bethesda. According to a representative from Andy’s, the restaurant is “approximately six months away from opening.”

Andy’s Pizza currently has locations in Adams Morgan, NoMa, Navy Yard, and Shaw in DC, with an additional NoVa location at Tysons. Another upcoming location is planned for Old Town Alexandria. Owner Andy Brown, who grew up in Bethesda, stated that he had been looking in the area since his restaurant began expanding. According to Business Journal, “The Bethesda location will also have more space than average — its other locations run roughly 1,800 square feet — to accommodate larger parties.”


Rockville

Planet Fitness is now open in the Montrose Shopping Center at 5520 Randolph Rd. in Rockville. The new gym is double in size of that of its previous location at 1776 E Jefferson St. The Planet Fitness locations in Gaithersburg and Germantown also recently completed renovations.  Per Planet Fitness: “We’re thrilled our Rockville club is moving to a new location that will double the size of the current location and include more fitness equipment, better parking and easy access to the Capital Beltway,” said C. Victor Brick, co-owner of PF Growth Partners (PFGP), a franchise division of Planet Fitness. “The new space will provide a bigger and better option for current members and the community of Rockville.”

Offering a hassle-free environment, the future Planet Fitness Rockville will feature new Matrix cardio machines, a new functional training area, new Matrix training cycles, and new rowers and Sci fit, as well as a 30-Minute Express Circuit, fully equipped locker rooms and numerous flat screen televisions.


Montgomery Mall

Adonni’s Desserts, a “haven of sweets”, has opened in the Montgomery Mall food terrace. Adonni’s is owned and operated by the people behind Malia’s Kitchen, which opened a location in the food terrace earlier this year. Menu items at Adonni’s include fried Oreos, funnel cake fries, brownies, bread pudding, and an assortment of ice cream and cakes.
