While nobody matched all six numbers in last night’s Mega Millions drawing, three MoCo retailers sold winning tickets worth $10,000. Those stores were the State Line Market at 7817 Eastern Avenue in Silver Spring, Tiger Beer, Wine & Deli at 303 North Washington Street in Rockville, and Watkins Mill Beer & Wine at 857 Russell Avenue in Gaithersburg. The next Mega Millions drawing will take place this Friday, January 13, and has an estimated value of  $1.35 billion with a cash value of $707.9 million. Additional details below courtesy of the Maryland Lottery:

Although there was no Mega Millions jackpot winner on Tuesday night, the drawing produced five third-tier $10,000-winning tickets sold in Maryland. Congratulations! The jackpot for the next Mega Millions drawing on Friday, Jan. 13 rolled to an estimated annuity value of $1.35 billion. If the jackpot is hit at that amount on Friday, it would be the second-largest in Mega Millions history and the fourth-largest in U.S. lottery history. The estimated cash value for Friday’s drawing is $707.9 million.

The winning numbers in the Jan. 10 drawing were 7, 13, 14, 15 and 18; the Mega Ball was 9 and the Megaplier was x3.

There are nine prize tiers in Mega Millions, ranging from $2 up to the jackpot. There were 135,900 winning tickets sold in Maryland for Tuesday’s drawing. The following retailers sold third-tier winning tickets for Tuesday night’s drawing worth $10,000 each:

  • Discount Tobacco & Accessories, 4201 Branch Avenue in Temple Hills (Prince George’s County)
  • Harris Teeter #376, 1801 Whetstone Way in Baltimore (Baltimore City)
  • State Line Market, 7817 Eastern Avenue in Silver Spring (Montgomery County)
  • Tiger Beer, Wine & Deli, 303 North Washington Street in Rockville (Montgomery County)
  • Watkins Mill Beer & Wine, 857 Russell Avenue in Gaithersburg (Montgomery County)

Instructions on claiming prizes in person or by mail are available HERE. Players must redeem prizes larger than $25,000 by mail or at Lottery headquarters in the Montgomery Park Business Center, 1800 Washington Blvd., Suite 330 in Baltimore. The Lottery’s Customer Resource Center in Baltimore is open by appointment only (no walk-ins). Click HERE to schedule an appointment.

There were more than 6.1 million winning tickets sold nationally for Tuesday’s drawing, including 16 second-tier winning tickets worth at least $1 million each. The $1 million winners were sold in California, Florida, Kansas, Massachusetts (two), Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio (two), Oregon, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Second-tier winners in Connecticut, Florida and New York added the Megaplier option to their tickets, which tripled their prizes to $3 million.

Mega Millions tickets are sold in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In the 25 drawings since the last jackpot hit (Oct. 18 through Jan. 10), there have been: 68 second-tier winning tickets of at least $1 million and 920 third-tier winning tickets of at least $10,000 sold nationally. There have been a total of 33,271,792 winning tickets sold across all nine prize tiers during this jackpot run.

Maryland Lottery winners have 182 days from the drawing date to claim their prizes. Lottery officials encourage winners to sign the back of their tickets immediately and put them in a safe location. Check for a win using ticket scanners available at Maryland Lottery retailers or with the Maryland Lottery app, available in Apple’s App Store and the Google Play Store.

A Rockville man almost threw away the $50,000 winning ticket he purchased for the October 30 Powerball drawing at the Sunoco at 1469 Rockville Pike. Full story below courtesy of the the Maryland Lottery:
”Scanning multiple Lottery tickets at a retailer can be a monotonous experience, if you have a lot of non-winning games, but that all changes when you win.

A Rockville man nearly missed his $50,000-winning Powerball ticket while scanning game after game after game. He has played Lottery games since he moved to America from Greece over 42 years ago, the winner told Lottery officials. The 67-year-old said that when he gets gas for his vehicle each week, he goes inside Congressional Sunoco at 1469 Rockville Pike in Rockville to purchase around $40 worth of Powerball tickets. While there, he checks his previous week’s tickets. The Montgomery County resident was scanning a pile of tickets, all non-winners, and was neglectful as he came across his $10 Oct. 31 quick-pick ticket. At first, he was ready to throw out the winning ticket with the rest of the non-winners, but then he thought he saw “$50,000” appear on the ticket scanner. The loyal player rescanned that ticket and saw it was indeed a winner.

“I have never won more than $4 before so I thought the machine was not working. I am glad that I didn’t throw it in the trash,” he said, laughing.

The business owner said he remained calm about the win. He plans to use the money to pay off bills and will put some of the windfall back into his business.”

Per the City of Rockville: Your bike needs a minor adjustment while you’re out on a ride, but you don’t have the tools for a tune up. What do you do? For riders on the Carl Henn Millennium Trail near the Thomas Farm Community Center, the city has you covered. Rockville recently installed a bicycle repair rack at mile marker 0 on the trail, right behind the community center.

The repair rack, which is free to use and has tools attached for minor repairs, is not designed for locking up bicycles, but instead is intended to help keep bicycles in working order for safe transportation and recreation. Cyclists can use the tools to complete quick fixes and maintenance, such as tightening handlebars, adjusting seat posts or removing tires. To offer questions or comments about the rack, or if you would like one near you, email [email protected].

Per the City of Rockville: Rockville has scored 100 marks for the city’s commitment to the health, welfare, safety and equality of its lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community in its sixth year of participating, and the 11th year for the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index.

Rockville scored 95 out of 100, plus an additional 10 bonus points, for its nondiscrimination laws, law enforcement, employment and workplace inclusivity, leadership and services to the LGBTQ+ community. Final scores cannot exceed 100.

“LGBTQ+ people everywhere deserve to live in welcoming places that are focused on building equality for all,” said Jodee Winterhof, the Human Rights Campaign’s senior vice president of policy and political affairs. “Since its launch 11 years ago, the main priority of the Municipal Equality Index remains supporting and celebrating the work cities do to serve LGBTQ+ people in the places they call home.”

The 11th annual MEI scorecard, released in November, analyzes and rates 506 municipalities across the country, measuring each for the inclusivity of laws, policies and services for their LGBTQ communities.

Ranked cities include more than 92.6 million people.

Cities are rated across numerous criteria, covering citywide nondiscrimination protections, policies for municipal employees, city services, law enforcement and the city’s leadership on LGBTQ equality.
