UPDATED: A previous version of this article only mentioned Ruan Thai

The food and dining site Eater serves as a local restaurant guide, offering reviews as well as news about the restaurant industry. Eater’s DC site recently released a list of “15 Standout Thai Restaurants Around DC” touting the diverse selection of Thai restaurants that show off the variety of dishes and traditions the Southeast Asian nation has to offer.

Rockville’s Kiin Imm and Wheaton’s Ruan Thai were the only two MoCo restaurants that made the list, coming in at #5 and #8. Kiin Imm’s first location is in Vienna, VA.

Kiin Imm

“This Thai restaurant, with locations in Rockville and Vienna, keeps things interesting with options like a fried tofu larb; street food dishes like boat noodle soup; and monthly specials a jack fruit dip served with pork rinds and sticky rice and “night bazaar chili flounder” in chili garlic sauce. Dine in or get takeout or delivery through each location’s own website.”

Ruan Thai

“Wheaton is one of the best neighborhoods around D.C. for Thai food, and Ruan Thai is one of the reasons. Here fried watercress appears alongside shrimp, squid, and cashews and spicy lime dressing. The restaurant has limited dine-in service (no reservations); takeout is available here.”

Ruan Thai was also the winner of the “Best Thai Food in MoCo” tournament that was held on the Taste MoCo instagram account with an average of over 10,000 voters per matchup in the 32 restaurant tournament that was held in 2020.

Kiin Imm opened its Rockville location at 785-D Rockville in 2018.

Ruan Thai opened in 1998 and is located at 11407 Amherst Ave in Wheaton.
