Authorities say a United States Park Police officer  was involved in a shooting that occurred on the 200 block of Missouri Avenue in NW D.C. that led to a chase into Silver Spring early this morning.

According to Park Police, the suspect was chased approximately 10 minutes into Silver Spring where the driver crashed into several cars on Georgia Avenue and Colesville Road before being apprehended and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Officer will be placed on administrative leave, pending an investigation. It is unclear why the shooting occurred at this moment.

Colesville Road was closed between between Georgia Avenue and Wayne Avenue for much of the early morning due to police activity, but reopened at approximately 6am.

Detectives Investigate Early Morning Gaithersburg Shooting

Detectives Investigate Shooting at 12 East Diamond Avenue. Detectives from the Gaithersburg Police Department – Investigative Section are investigating a shooting that occurred in the parking lot of 12 East Diamond Avenue in Gaithersburg.

On Sunday, April 18, 2021, at approximately 1:32 a.m., officers from both the Gaithersburg Police and Montgomery County Police Department 6th District responded to the area of Russell Avenue and East Diamond Avenue for the report of the sounds of shots fired. While police did not find evidence of such activity, another call for service was received at 1:58 a.m., for a possible shooting victim at a local hospital. The victim advised officers that the incident occurred in the parking lot of the Antijitos Restaurant located at 12 East Diamond Avenue. Officers responded to that location and found evidence in the parking lot to support that a shooting incident had occurred.

The victim is in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. At this time, there is no suspect information.

Laytonsville Man Shot and Killed by MoCo Sheriff’s Deputy, Montgomery County Police Investigating

Per Montgomery County Police:

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office fatal deputy-involved shooting that occurred yesterday in the area of MD-108 (Olney Laytonsville Road) and Fieldcrest Road.

At approximately 8:01 yesterday morning, Saturday, February 6, the Emergency Communications Center received numerous calls for the report of multiple collisions in the 6000 block of MD-108 (between Riggs Road and Fieldcrest Road).  Callers to 911 reported that the driver of a Volkswagen sedan struck multiple vehicles and was driving and acting erratically.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that a Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputy was driving in the area at the time of the call and was the first law enforcement officer to arrive at the scene.  The deputy encountered the driver of the Volkswagen in the area of MD-108 and Fieldcrest Road.  During this encounter, the driver of the Volkswagen struck the deputy with a long piece of wood in the area of the head and neck.  The deputy shot the male.

During the interaction, the deputy radioed for assistance.  Additional officers and Fire & Rescue personnel, already en route to the call, arrived and assisted in attempting life-saving measures.  The man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The man is being identified as Kevin Costlow, age 52, of Laytonsville.

The deputy was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Following an established procedure, once Major Crimes detectives complete their investigation of the deputy-involved shooting, the findings will be submitted to the Howard County’s State’s Attorney’s Office for review.

Armed Suspect Dead After Gaithersburg Police Chase and Shooting

Around 5:50PM Friday, the Gaithersburg City Police Street Crimes Unit was conducting surveillance on a reported armed suspect. When Officers approached the suspect, he fled across South Frederick Avenue near Cedar Avenue in Gaithersburg.

During the foot pursuit, shots were fired by Street Crimes Unit Officers after the suspect displayed a handgun.

One suspect was shot. Officers immediately rendered aid and Paramedics responded for further treatment, however the suspect died from injuries on scene. No officers were injured. The suspect’s gun was recovered on the scene.

A large number of Gaithersburg City Police, Montgomery County Police, and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue units responded.

According to their website, the Gaithersburg Police Street Crimes Unit, the unit involved in the shooting, “addresses crime patterns, gathers intelligence, and enforces narcotic laws and acts as a liaison with similar units of allied agencies to de-conflict or coordinate investigations.”

1/10 Update: The man fatally shot by Gaithersburg police Friday evening after a foot chase has been identified as 24 year old Kwamena Ocran. The officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave.

Montgomery County police said in a news release that officers with the street crimes unit of the Gaithersburg police received information that Orcan was armed with a handgun. The county police are investigating Ocran’s shooting.
