Ride On Resuming Front Boarding, Fare Collection in April
Beginning Monday, April 5, 2021, front door boarding and fare collection will resume on Montgomery County’s Ride On, Ride On extRa, and Flash buses. These routines had been suspended due to COVID. With the return of front boarding, the rear doors on Ride On buses will return to their pre-COVID exit only layout.

As a result of a sharp decline of Metrorail ridership over the past 11 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, unless they receive more federal funding, Metro will need to make service cuts, including 22 station closures. Metro is dealing with a budget deficit of about $210 million, with rail ridership down 90% due to the pandemic.

The Rockville Metro Pedestrian Bridge above Rockville Pike is now expected to remain closed through this fall. The bridge has been closed since June 2020, when damaged glass panels along the bridge posed a significant safety concern.
