Taste MoCo’s Best Pizza in MoCo: Sweet Sixteen

We are now down to the Sweet Sixteen of the Best Pizza in MoCo tournament! These tournaments are a fun way to shine a little light on local restaurants. We urge you to support your favorites and consider refraining from badmouthing any restaurant.

Voting takes place in the @TasteMoCo Instagram story (www.Instagram.com/TasteMoCo) and each round lasts for 24 hours. The result of every matchup can be found in the “Best Pizza” highlight.

As a reminder, we included every restaurant that was nominated and did not include any restaurants that have more locations outside of MoCo than in (unless the first location was in MoCo).

Manny & Olga’s vs. Continental 

Manny & Olga’s got its start on Fenton Street in Silver Spring. They’ve grown to about a dozen locations across the DMV. Continental has been serving Kensington since 1967. They’re still cash-only.

Roscoe’s vs. Tally Ho

Roscoe’s serves Neapolitan pizza and is named after Takoma Park’s unofficial mascot– a rooster that roamed the city for about a decade from 1989-1999. Tally Ho is a partially Greek restaurant that has been serving Potomac since 1968.

Sole D’Italia vs. Stained Glass Pub

For many, the decision for which place they’d go to for half-price pizza on Mondays and Tuesdays came between these two restaurants. Both have been mainstays on Layhill Road for decades.

Fontina vs. Mamma Lucia 

These two restaurants made it to the final of the “Best Italian” tournament. Fontina Grille is in King Farm and has gained a lot of popularity in recent years. Mamma Lucia has multiple locations in the area and a large social media following.

Giuseppi’s vs. Mangino’s

Giuseppi’s has two locations– Rockville Town Center and Kentlands. Owned and operated by a Pittsburgh family who now calls MoCo home. Mangino’s is the former gas station pizza that moved into a Germantown storefront a couple years ago.

Pines of Rome vs. Slice of Rockville

Pines of Rome has served Bethesda since 1972 and is known for its very popular white pizza. Slice of Rockville has made a name for itself serving pies as one of the most popular one-two punches in a MoCo shopping center along with Carmen’s.

Potomac Pizza vs. Armand’s

Two of the biggest names in the tournament. Potomac Pizza currently has five locations in the area and Armand’s is down to just one in MoCo (Rockville) and two overall.

4 Corners Pub vs. Frankly Pizza 

Two very different styles going head to head. 4 Corners has been around since 1967 (located in the Four Corners part of Silver Spring). Frankly Pizza is a wood-fired brick oven pizza place in Kensington.
