Demolition Underway of Rockville Metro Station Canopy

WMATA has posted an update on the construction that began on September 11th at the Rockville Metro station.

The Rockville and Shady Grove Metro stations will be closed until December 4 to complete reconstruction and repairs to the canopies over the platforms at the stations.

Metro is currently  offering free shuttle bus service to and from the closed stations.

Per Metro:

“The Rockville platform canopy has protected customers from sun, rain and snow throughout the years, which has led to progressive corrosion and deterioration. When Shady Grove and Rockville stations closed on Sept. 11 to fully replace the canopy at Rockville Station, construction crews immediately started preparing for demolition.”
