Detectives Investigate First-Degree Assault in Downtown Silver Spring

Video surveillance of the first-degree assault that occurred in Silver Spring on October 17th has been released (available at the end of this article).

Per Montgomery County Police:

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police–3rd District Investigative Section continue to investigate the October 17th first-degree assault that occurred in the early morning hours in the 8300 block of Fenton St. Detectives have released surveillance video of the suspect and are asking for the public’s help in identifying him.

On October 17th, at approximately 3:20 a.m., officers responded to the 8300 block of Fenton St. for the report of an individual suffering from gunshot wounds. Upon arrival at the scene, officers located a 35-year-old male victim from Silver Spring, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Officers initiated lifesaving measures on the victim until Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel arrived at the scene. The victim was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Currently, the victim is in stable condition.

The investigation by detectives determined that the victim was standing outside of his vehicle in a parking lot in the 8300 block of Fenton St. when the suspect approached him and pointed a firearm at him. A physical altercation between the suspect and the victim ensued. The suspect then shot the victim multiple times as the victim fled the scene in fear of his life. The victim then ran to the intersection of Bonifant St. and Fenton St., where he received help from police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.

The suspect was described as a black male, 6-feet tall, wearing a dark North Face style winter coat, a white t-shirt, gray pants and white and gray Nike sneakers.

Detectives have determined that this shooting was not related to the October 16th shooting that also occurred in the 8300 block of Fenton St.

Anyone with information about this crime or this suspect, is asked to contact the 3rd District Investigative Section at 240-773-6870. This remains an ongoing investigation.
