Help The City of Gaithersburg Create a Future Vision for Housing

Land Use Article of the Maryland Annotated Code requires municipalities to adopt a comprehensive, or “master” plan composed of various elements, such as Land Use and Transportation, which are intended to guide future growth and development of the City.

In 2019, the State legislature passed HB 1045 requiring all master plans to include a new Housing Element. This new Element is required at a minimum to address the need for affordable housing, including both workforce and low-income housing. The Element may also discuss other facets of housing.

The City of Gaithersburg, over the next several months, will begin working on this new Housing Element, which will include goals and recommendations meant to address future housing needs in the City.

From the City of Gaithersburg:

An important component and first step of any master plan element is public outreach. The City of Gaithersburg wants to understand how Gaithersburg residents view housing in the City; the challenges that they face or the advantages they have with their housing accommodations.

What are people’s thoughts regarding affordable housing in the City and housing opportunities in general? Below you will story maps and surveys. The StoryMaps are web-based multimedia presentations you can scroll through that provide quick overviews of City demographic and housing data. Please take some time to review each StoryMap and then complete the surveys. The surveys will be open through April 8, 2022. Your input on the future of housing in the City will help shape how the Housing Element is focused and what recommendations will be made.
