MCPS sent out the following messages to all employees regarding Covid-19 leave being restored:
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to share the important news that MCAAP, MCEA, SEIU, and MCPS have reached a joint agreement for the restoration of a COVID-19 leave benefit for all employees. This valuable benefit supports employees and their families should positive cases of the virus impact their lives. The original benefit expired at the end of June 2022. Following negotiations, the newly restored benefit reflects a joint commitment to MCPS employees concerning the reality of the ongoing impact of the virus in our community and schools.
Key to this agreement is the reinstatement of a COVID-19 leave benefit of 7 (seven) days with an opportunity for 5 (five) more. The agreement between MCPS and the three employee associations further speaks to mitigation strategies, virus monitoring, communication and two-way engagement through site-based safety committees.
The COVID-19 leave may be applied retroactively to July 1, 2022, provided that the employee submits proof of a COVID-19 positive diagnosis. The process to request a retroactive benefit will be communicated to MCPS staff in the coming weeks.
Negotiations for COVID-19 leave are a strong example demonstrating how collaboration with employee associations ensures a great workplace environment for all MCPS employees.
