The preliminary investigation has determined that a male victim was grazed on the leg by a projectile from a pellet gun. The victim was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. The suspect(s) have not been apprehended.”
The Washington Business Journal has released its list of ‘Top 50 Middle Schools in the D.C. Region’ based on rankings released annually by Niche. 19 MCPS schools, which can be seen below, have made the list.
Per WBJ, “The group weighs such factors as graduation rates, state test scores, enrollment figures, student-teacher ratios, finance information, diversity measures, disciplinary actions and parent and student surveys, among other metrics, with the largest amount of attention given to academic data from the U.S. Department of Education and National Center for Education Statistics.”
On Sunday, November 6, 2022, at 2:00am we “Fall Back” as Daylight Saving Time ends. While many of us enjoy the extra hour of sleep and lament the loss of longer days, this may be the last time if the “Sunshine Protection Act” passes through the house and moves on to President Biden. The bill would make Daylight Saving permanent and put an end to having to change your clocks twice a year. According to the H.R.69 – Sunshine Protection Act of 2021, this bill makes daylight savings time the new, permanent standard time. States with areas exempt from daylight savings time may choose the standard time for those areas.
As mentioned above, the bill still has to be approved by the U.S. House of Representatives and signed into law by President Joe Biden, and that process has appeared to hit a “brick wall,” according to a July article by the The Hill. The article states that there are fundamental disagreements with the language of the bill, such as whether daylight saving or standard should be the permanent time, and the House having other priorities are the main reasons why the Sunshine Protection Act seems to have hit a snag.

The entire community is invited to join the City for its annual Veterans Day Observance on Friday, November 11, 2022, honoring & recognizing all U.S. military personnel who play an important role in safeguarding our nation and our future. The patriotic ceremony will include words and music to commemorate the occasion, followed by a solemn wreath-laying ceremony. City officials & members of local veterans groups will be on hand to honor those who have served in all branches of the military. The ceremony will begin with a Presentation of Colors. Junior Mayor Loriele Nix will lead the Pledge of Allegiance & 2020 Young Artist Award winner Chloe Jackson will sing the National Anthem. The Gaithersburg High School Jazz Ensemble will perform patriotic music & Gaithersburg High School Band member Marli Banner will play “Taps.” A reception with refreshments will immediately follow the ceremony in the City Hall Gallery.

Sneaker Boutique KICKZ is holding its grand opening today, October 29, at Westfield Montgomery Mall. According to KICKZ Instagram page, “the first 25 people inside the store will receive a $25 store credit at the door and all purchases that include both a sneaker and a clothing item will receive $50 for the first 50.”
KICKZ has an additional location inside of Patrick Henry Mall in Newport News, VA which opened in 2021.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called to the scene of a fire at the Twin Towers apartment complex on Fidler Lane and Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring a little after 2pm on Friday afternoon, according to MCFRS Public Information Officers Pete Piringer and James Carpenter.
Crews arrived at the 17-story residential building to find a fire on the 14th floor. According to Piringer, one adult patient is being evaluated as a priority 1 trauma patient with serious injuries/burns. The person was injured when they attempted to move an electric scooter that caught on fire while it was charging in the living room of the home. After sustaining burns, the person exited the apartment and closed the door behind them. A total of three patients were evaluated, and occupants from two units have been displaced. Approximately $50K in damages incurred. The cause of the scooter fire is believed to be a malfunction/failure of the scooter battery.

For more than a decade, DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day has provided an easy, no-cost opportunity to dispose of medicines stored in the home that are susceptible to misuse and theft.
Opioid misuse remains at epidemic levels in the United States. According to a report published by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), a majority of people who misused a prescription medication obtained the medicine from a family member or friend. “I encourage everyone across the country to dispose of unneeded medications to help keep our communities safe and healthy,” said DEA Administrator Anne Milgram. “The Take Back campaign is part of DEA’s continued efforts to combat the drug poisoning epidemic and protect the safety and health of communities across the United States.”

A collision that took place at approximately 4am on Saturday morning, shut down the through lanes of I-270SB between Rt. 28 (Exit 6) and Montrose Rd (Exit 4), according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) PIO Pete Piringer.
