Temperatures this weekend are likely to be a couple degrees hotter than they’ve been the last couple degrees, pushing 100° on Saturday and Sunday. The Heat Index will be over 100° on both days. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services suggest to take frequent breaks in cool/shaded areas if you have to be outside.

Temperatures on Mondays are also likely to reach the mid 90s with a chance of thunderstorms before the heat finally relents on Tuesday, barely reaching 80° Before getting into the upper 80s the rest of the week. Safety Tips by the National Weather Service can be seen below.

Renowned DC Artist Lenny Campello to Judge Annual Paint the Town Labor Day Show in Kensington

Known internationally for narrative-driven paintings and drawings and technology-infused displays, Campello has worked as an artist, gallerist, curator, art critic, instructor, author, and arts blogger. He was named one of DC’s “most interesting people” by the Washington CityPaper. “Lenny has such a fresh take on art, and we thrilled he’s going to be a part of our show,” says MAA President Jennifer Barlow. “His level of support to new and experienced artists alike really wows us.”

The annual art show runs for three days—September 3-5—and features hundreds of pieces of artwork by member artists. Original paintings, drawings, sculptures, and photography—plus prints and notecards—will all be for sale. A portion of proceeds goes in support of MAA’s educational mission.

Former MoCo Resident Vince McMahon Announces His Retirement From WWE Amidst Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Former Montgomery County resident Vince McMahon announced his retirement today from World Wrestling Entertainment. McMahon and his family lived on Stedwick Dr in Montgomery Village in the late 60’s/early 70’s. On June 8, the Wall Street Journal released an article alleging that McMahon paid a secret $3 million “hush money” settlement to a former WWE employee he allegedly had a sexual relationship with. One week later, McMahon announced he was temporarily stepping down from his role as Chairman and CEO while the company ran an internal investigation. The Wall Street Journal then released a second article on July 8, alleging that McMahon paid more than $12 million in total over the past 16 years in settlements with women, all who were associated with the WWE.

Vince’s daughter Stephanie McMahon, along with WWE President Nick Khan, have been named co-CEO’s of the company moving forward. McMahon remains the majority shareholder of WWE, owning about 32% of its stock. McMahon released the following statement Friday afternoon on the company’s corporate website:

PGA TOUR Superstore to Hold Grand Opening Celebration in Rockville This Month

Last November we let you know that PGA TOUR Superstore will be taking over most of the location that was formerly home to Shoppers at 5100 Nicholson Lane in White Flint Plaza. The store announced on its website that it will hold a Grand Opening on Saturday, July 30th, that will include “unbelievable savings and prizes throughout the weekend, including $30,000 IN GOLF AND TENNIS GIVEAWAYS!”

PGA TOUR Superstore is one of the biggest retailers in the golf industry, with more than 40 locations in 16 states. They opened a location in nearby Fairfax last year. All stores are staffed with certified teaching professionals, state-of-the-art swing simulators and hitting bays, an expansive putting green, and an in-house club making and repair facility. Each location also offers an extensive assortment of men’s, women’s and junior’s golf clubs, footwear, accessories, golf balls and multiple lines of apparel for men, women and juniors.

Press Release: IID Responds to Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Montgomery County (Gaithersburg)

Press Release from Maryland Attorney General’s Office: The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General responded to a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred in Montgomery County, Maryland, on Wednesday morning.

As a result of the involved deputy’s duty assignment to the federal task force, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Baltimore Field Office is conducting the initial investigation. The IID retains an obligation under Maryland law to conduct its own investigation and write its own report of the shooting. At the conclusion of the ID’s investigation, that report will be referred to the relevant State’s Attorney’s Office to consider whether state charges are appropriate.

Montgomery County Leaders and Officials to Announce Resolution to Address and Define Antisemitism

The resolution, introduced by the Council and led by Councilmember Friedson, comes in response to the disturbing rise of antisemitism and acts of assault, vandalism and harassment against Jewish community members and Jewish organizations across the County and nation.

The resolution adopts the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism and reaffirms the Council’s commitment to combat all forms of hate and extremism and reflects the Council’s strong support for and solidarity with Montgomery County’s Jewish community.

MoCo Native Wes Moore Wins Democratic Nomination for Maryland Governor

Wes Moore has won the Democratic nomination for Maryland Governor, according to several projections. He has defeated former Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez, Maryland comptroller Peter Franchot, former Education Secretary John King, and former Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler in the primary and will move on to the General Election against Dan Cox.

Moore is a native of Takoma Park, who grew up in the area until he was 6 years old, moving to New York after his father passed away. He returned to Maryland for college and attended Johns Hopkins University where he studied international relations and economics and graduated Omicron Delta Kappa and Phi Beta Kappa in 2001.From 2017 to 2021 Moore served as the CEO of the Robin Hood Foundation– a charitable organization which attempts to alleviate problems caused by poverty in New York City.

County Council Seeks Applicants for Policing Advisory Commission

The public members on the Commission should reflect a range of ethnicities, socioeconomic status and places of origin to reflect the racial and economic diversity of the County’s communities, including religious creed, age, sex – including on the basis of gender identity or orientation, disability and geographic location, with emphasis on those disproportionately impacted by inequities; and have an interest or expertise in policing matters. Public members must participate in the Montgomery County Police Department’s Citizen Academy.

The 15-member Commission consists of nine voting public members nominated and appointed by the County Council; four voting public members nominated by the County Executive and appointed by the County Council; and two non-voting ex officio members appointed by the County Council: the Police Chief or the Police Chief’s designee, and the President of an employee organization certified under Article V of Chapter 33 (Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 35) or the President’s designee.

Signage Up at CVS in Kentlands

Construction continues to progress at the upcoming CVS location in the Kentlands and “coming soon” signage was erected earlier this week.

We first reported that CVS would be taking over the old Tommy Joe’s/Boulevard Tavern/Brasserie Beck/O’Donnell’s location in the Kentlands back in 2019. There’s no timetable for when CVS will be ready to open, but it wouldn’t surprise us if it opened by this end of this fall.

Missing 27-Year-Old Montgomery County Man Found Dead

Missing Montgomery County man, Tyrell Jamaal Grice who was last seen in the Aspen Hill area, has been located deceased. According to Montgomery County Police, no foul play is suspected in his death.

Per our previous report: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 4th District Investigative Section were asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 27-year-old. Tyrell Jamaal Grice was last seen on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at approximately 1 a.m., in the 4900 block of McCall St.

Jackson Hoppe was last seen at approximately 4:40 a.m., on Friday, July 22, 2022, walking in the 100 block of Watkins Pond Boulevard in Rockville.

Hoppe is approximately 5-feet, 3-inches tall and weighs 90 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a gray hoodie and either black sweatpants or black shorts.
